We are very proud of our success stories, and we love to hear from our adoptive parents about the progress of their new family members.  Here are just a few of our successes.

Alice, Jim & Tillie                                        Tilley                                                Tilley & Alice                 Tilley, Alice & Shady Shady

Tillie came to us as a very shy and scared little girl.  She was only a young pup and it was obvious she had been abused.  When Alice & Jim Jackson saw her picture and read her story, they fell in love as their eyes filled with tears and their hearts drew them towards this once sad and lonely little dog.  They drove down here from Spicewood, Texas to meet her and spent hours just loving her and talking to her.  They knew she needed them and they were not going home without her!  Today, Tilllie is an adult, full of love, happiness, and a brand new life she never could have ever dreamed possible.  She lives the life of a queen in her new home and you would never know that she was the same lost and terrified dog.  Alice & Jim still keep in touch with us after all these years, sending us pictures, donations, and even sponsoring other dogs in need.  They are an awesome couple!  Jim is headed back for Iraq in April, so please keep the Jackson family in your prayers!

Jessica

Jessica (Jess) is a very lucky dog!!  She came to us from a kill shelter in North Texas where she was faced with death and didn’t have much to time escape.  Our Vice President saved her just in the nick of time!  She drove all the way up there to get Jessica and brought her back to our vet clinic so she could be treated for heartworms.  Once she was released from the hospital, she was being transported to a no kill shelter in Brazoria where she would recoup from her treatments and eventually find her forever home.  Well…the day she was in route to Houston, a wonderful family called us and expressed interest in her.  It was too late to stop the transport but they were willing to drive all the way to pick her up!  After reviewing their application, and speaking to them personally, we were so excited because we knew Jess was soon to be on her way to an awesome home where she would be loved forever!  We couldn’t have asked for a better home and the Koehler’s couldn’t have asked for a better dog!  This was a match made in heaven and we believe it was just meant to be!  So Tom Koehler and a few of their children piled in the mini van and made the drive all the way to Houston while Denise Koehler and one of the other children were at a soccer game trying to get through the day, the entire time, with anticipation and excitement on the arrival of their newest family member!  Pure joy filled their hearts and their home when their eyes met and what a blessing this was for our little Jess who was so close to death and now has so much life to live!!!

We want to share some words with you from Jess’ new Mom

“Jessica is HOME!!!!  And she is LOVED LOVED LOVED.  I keep thinking to myself, how is this possible?  She's too good to be true!  She's gorgeous, we bathed her and she's so shiny clean.  And she is so gentle and sweet and affectionate and darling!  And the part that was a HUGE blessing to us was that she politely sniffed our cats and that's it.  No chasing or aggression...just a polite mild interest.  And so my cats are FINE and they're not scared or freaked out by this new large stranger in their lives.  Jessica, now named Luna, is snuggling with my youngest daughter as I type this.

It's weird because it's like we've been given a treasure and now I'm afraid of losing it!  I am trying not to worry about her heartworms...we're making sure she doesn't run around, but when she sleeps a lot we automatically start thinking is she okay?!?  I will try not to worry.”

Jess (Luna) is doing great and recovering wonderfully and we are so thankful to her new family who now shares their home and their love with this sweet and deserving dog!!  Once she has recovered from her treatments, she will begin agility training!

Trace

Trace is a very special dog and he now has a very special home!!  This dog was dumped in the country when he was about 5 years old.  Property owners were moving to Colorado and couldn't keep him.  We took him in and he was heartworm positive, missing his bottom teeth, and suffering from kidney damage which meant he had to be on a very special (and expensive) diet.  Poor dog had been through a a lot and we didn't think he would ever find a home, other than with us at the shelter!  Well, when Trace turned 7 years old, Robert & Jenny Fears came in to our lives, it changed Trace's life forever!  They fell in love with him unconditionally and couldn't wait to take him home with them!  He now has an awesome family where he is living the life of a King and soaking up the AC!!  What a difference they made in the life of Trace!!  We thank them from the bottom of our hearts!!!

Happy Family Silver & Lelu

Dorothy & Brian Birch adopted Silver from us in November 2000.  Silver couldn't have found a better home and he has been so well loved and cared for. His Mom and Dad have kept in touch with us all this time and when they were ready for a second dog, they came back to us in January 2003 and adopted Lelu (now named Copper)!!  WOW!  What a wonderful and beautiful family!  These two dogs are happy as they can be and make a wonderful team.  They have fantastic parents and we are very thankful to them for giving two of our dogs all the love and care they deserve!  Every dog should be so lucky!

Unfortunately, Brian was unavailable for pictures when these were taken, but you can bet he is just as happy as Mom!!!   This is one family that will stay together!!!

Happy Ending. ZhaZha

WOW! What a success story this is! We received an email from Demery Shain, who lives in Seattle, Washington, requesting an application on our dog, ZhaZha. Little did we know, she would soon be booking a flight from Seattle all the way to San Antonio to adopt ZhaZha into her wonderful family!!! She checked in to a hotel in San Antonio late Friday night and drove out to Floresville on Saturday to complete the paperwork and pick up her new baby! ZhaZha, now known as Eva, will be flying home to Seattle on Tuesday morning where she will live life as a Queen! She will be living indoors and will travel with her new Mom anywhere she goes! Demery is a vet tech and also has a pet sitting service. She is terrific with animals and is definitely an angel in our eyes! We are still in shock that she would travel so far to adopt a dog but know that this will be a really fantastic forever home! Thank you Demery and best of luck to you and Eva!!!

Angie

Angie was at our shelter for 2 1/2 years before she ever got adopted!  She is such a beautiful dog and a loving, kind, and loyal friend!  She had 7 puppies shortly after she came to us.  All of them have been adopted. Angie also had heartworms. Once the puppies were weaned, we had her treated for heartworms then had her spayed.  She was a healthy, happy dog waiting for that perfect family to come along.  Recently, a couple who had been looking for a dog like her, met her and fell in love with her!  She is now living a life of luxury and is the one running the home!  She gets  to stay indoors where it is nice and warm during the Winter and cool during the Summer.  She pretty much does as she pleases and her adoptive parents are very happy with her!  She goes for nice walks every day and gets lots of attention!

Shilo

Shilo is a purebred beagle who was rescued by us from a vet clinic in San Antonio.  Somebody picked him up off the streets, he had been hit by a car.  The clinic wanted $400 to do the surgery and the people didn't have the money.  They were going to put him to sleep.  Fortunately, somebody there knew us and gave us a call.  We took him to our vet and had his leg repaired.  It healed so perfectly you couldn't even tell it was ever broken!  We nursed him back to health and his recovery went very well.  Shilo was been adopted several times and was been returned for different reasons.  The last family let him put lots of weight on which desperately needs to come off!  Finally, he was seen on our web site by somebody in Brownsville who fell in love with him despite his added pounds!  She drove all the way to Floresville to pick him up and is so excited to have him!  We hear from her frequently and she says Shilo is doing great!  She absolutely loves him.  He is living indoors and gets to go on nice long walks with his new Mom who has him on a diet and is determined to get the extra weight off!

Amber

Amber is a very lucky dog!  When she came to us, she had a broken leg and couldn't walk on it at all.  She also had a lot of nerve damage and we weren't sure if it would ever heal completely.  She stood a good chance of losing her leg.  With proper veterinary care, lots of love and prayers, and the help of God, she miraculously healed!  Six months later, she was walking like a normal dog with all her feeling back!  She was very fortunate recently to have been given a good home where she lives indoors and has lots of love from her new parents!

Callie

Callie came to us when she was 6 weeks old.  She brought with her 7 littermates.  She lived all her puppy life and part of her adult life here at the shelter.  Recently, she got a wonderful home where she has the run of the house!  She is living with a wonderful couple, their 2 kids, 2 others dogs, and 3 cats!!!  What a family she has now!  She is doing great and her new family really loves her!  In fact, they are thinking of adopting another dog from us because they love Callie so much!  By the way, Callie also has a new name...Ellie.  What a wonderful Christmas present!!

Copper & Fritz

Copper & Fritz were both at our shelter for over a year. Copper was abandoned by his family and Fritz was left on the side of the road after being hit by a car.  The two of the became buddies and lived with us for a long time.  One night, destiny arrived and swept both of them off their feet! YEAH!  How lucky could they be to get adopted together and have such a nice new home!  They are living indoors and we are told have since gotten new K9 friends to share their home with.  They are in good hands and are enjoying the home life with a family who really cares for them!

Jasmine

Jasmine came to us from a bus depot near Helotes.  It took rescuers months to gain her trust enough to be able to catch her!  She had to have surgery on her ear and lots of TLC to adjust to humans.  She didn't trust anyone at first but it didn't take her long to realize she was loved by all of us and nobody would hurt her!  She became very friendly and comfortable here at the shelter.  It took her a long time but she finally found the home of her dreams!  She is living indoors and has another dog to share her life with, along with a young couple who spend lots of time with their K9 friends.  They go on lots of long walks and she enjoys being inside with her family.  We're told she is very happy and is very loved.

Cocoa
Cocoa came to us after her elderly owners were no longer able to care for her. She was 3 1/2 years old, and malnourished. Growing up in such a calm, quiet environment, Cocoa shied away from crowds of people and other animals. A military man temporarily assigned to the area fell in love with her, and immediately called his wife in Seattle. They have a small child, and were looking for a well-behaved dog who would do well with children. After a few days and some phone calls to the airlines, Cocoa got on a plane to Washington, and was greeted by her new family. Cocoa is now happily settling in to family life in the northwest. We expect her to live a long and fulfilling life.

Teddy, Eddie and Smokey
Teddy and Eddie had been with us for some time, and became best of friends. While we always hope that best friends be kept together, their being large, playful chow-mix dogs, they would be a big undertaking even in a single-dog household. At the annual KISS Pet Adoption Day, a young family fell in love with Teddy, but were unable to manage the adoption fee for two dogs, so unfortunately, Eddie was left behind. After a few days, seeing how sad and upset both dogs were, some friends of the Foundation got together, and each donated a portion of the adoption fee so that the two dogs could be reunited. When Eddie was brought to his new home, Teddy was so excited, he brought over his brand new bone, and laid it at Eddie's feet. Through conversations with the family, we found out that a relative of theirs, who saw us at Petsmart just a few weeks before the KISS Pet Adoption Day, ended up adopting one of our puppies, Smokey, and think he's just the best dog they've had!
