MOLLY
ADOPTED!
|
HOMESTEAD
DOGS – Border Collie Mixes
- Spayed & Neutered
Birthday:
1 November 2007
This group of dogs
was found half starved and thirsty over the summer with several others who
have already been placed. They were being fed by locals in the Homestead
Place neighborhood. Several people were making daily treks through the
brush to make sure these dogs were at least being fed.
Mama Molly was the
only adult female in the group. Her puppies have all been placed, (except
one that we still haven't been able to catch). Molly is a timid dog. She
gets along with other dogs and is good with kids. It just takes her a
little bit more time to get use to people. When she does warm up to you,
she loves to snuggle her head against you and let you scratch her back and
rub her belly.
All of these dogs
are good with children and other dogs. The vet said their broken teeth
were probably caused from eating rocks, something that happens when dogs
go hungry, but they will never go hungry again.

ZSAZSA
ADOPTED! |
ZSAZSA - Poodle
Birthday:
16 September 2009
ZsaZsa
is now ready for her new home! All her treatments have been done and she
is good as new! Here was her story a few short months ago....
ZsaZsa was found
on the west side of San Antonio covered in dirt, matted hair and mange.
Her skin looked horrible and she was constantly scratching from the itch.
Her coat was so bad we thought she was brown and initially named her
Cinnamon. She is very lucky. Most people would have shot her on site,
but we have big hearts at Las Lomas and see the potential in every dog.
Zsazsa weighs
about 15 pounds and is making enormous strides with her treatments.
She is heartworm positive and being treated for that as well. She has been
cured of intestinal worms and an eye ailment. She has not been spayed
yet. She is making an unbelievable recovery. She is house trained and
crate trained. She is affectionate and loving, walks on a leash and loves
kids. She loves going outside and comes back immediately
when called. (she doesn't want to be left out again.) We are working
on teaching her not to jump when she gets excited. She almost can't
help it because she is so happy she has a new chance at life.
She is good with
other dogs and cats but has limited contact because she has not
received a "release" from the vet. She loves to play and is not
shy at all. For everything this poor baby has been through, she has such a
wonderful, grateful and loyal personality. Everything about this dog, from
the way she wags her tail to how she looks into your eyes, says
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She knows how bad she was and
she knows how close she was to death.

hair cut by his new Mom!

FURRY
ADOPTED!
|
FURRY
– Black Lab/ Border Colllie Mix – Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 15 May 2004
Furry
is still waiting for his own home! He
was part of a litter brought to the vet clinic at 5 days of age with no
mom. The kind, caring office
manager bottle-fed them all until they were able to eat on their own and
find new homes.
Furry
is more docile and laid back than your typical Border Collie.
He's just a good-ole-boy still hopeful that sweet, black dogs do
find loving homes! Furry is
gentle, kind, great with other dogs, and he LOVES to play in the water!!
Whether it be his water bucket, or the water hose, he can easily be
entertained for hours!
He
would love to meet you, and show you what a nice boy he is and all he has
to offer.

Lokie is a great
dog who was adopted out as a pup and then returned when her owners had to
move. They brought her back with intentions of coming back for her
but it has been 5 months now and we don't hear a word from them.
Poor Loki just spent 5 months at the shelter when she could have been
searching for a new home. She loves people and is really sweet and
friendly.

LUCY
LOU
ADOPTED! |
LUCY
LOU – Yellow Lab Mix – Spayed
Estimated
Date of Birth: 20 March 2006
Lucy
is a compact Lab mix with a dynamic personality who is eager to please and
very trainable.
She
has a lot of energy and would make a good jogging pawtner. She loves to run and has been helpful in adding a race track
to her foster mom's dog yard. Lucy
prefers the boy dogs and the bigger the better; she said size is not an
object.
She
has been around kids and is no threat, but she does tend to jump up for
hugs. Not that this is a bad
thing, as the world could always use some more huggers, but she might be
too overwhelming for the little kiddos at this time.

PATRICK
ADOPTED! |
PATRICK
- Shih Tzu
Birthday: 27
December 2005
Patrick was found
right in the middle of a busy highway! Fortunately, one of our
rescuers was able to scoop him up before he was hit by a car. He
hair was so matted you couldn't even see his eyes because they were closed
due to all the discharge from his eyes and the matted hair. He is
one lucky little dog to be alive today! He has had his shots now and
will be neutered before adoption. |

BRUTUS
ADOPTED
TOGETHER! |
Brutus & Boon
- Schnauzer –
Mix Puppies
Birthday: 29
June 2010
Brutus &
Boon are the results of an unwanted liter. A very pregnant stray dog was
taken in by a kind family who had found her wandering in an abandoned
area. The puppies came a short time later. Homes were found for all but
these last two puppies. The momma is secure with the family who rescued
her and was spayed to prevent future litters.
Brutus
is black and Boon is gray. They have been dewormed, received all shots and
started on heart guard. They are playful and so sweet you will melt.
Brutus gives kisses and Boon just snuggles. They play with their new
toys, eat several times a day and nap the rest of the time.

CASSIDY
ADOPTED!
Sponsored
by Tiffany Lemmen of California |
CASSIDY –
Catahoula – Spayed
Estimated Date of
Birth: 19 May 1999
Hi, my name is
Cassidy. I am a sweet sweet dog.
I am calm and very quiet, I haven’t barked one time since I was
dropped off at the shelter. However,
don't let my age fool you. I am also very energetic and could
probably outrun you! I do need to be kept on a leash and live inside
for my own safety. I
am sad and in mourning because my family has moved to California and I
wasn't able to go with them. I am a digger when left outside in the yard.
I long to be with my family and am heartbroken without my two little
girls I lived with for the past 5 years.
I loved them dearly and they loved me too.
They were crying their eyes out when Mom dropped me off at the
shelter. I am so sad and
confused and even though they are good to me at the shelter, and this
isn’t a bad place to be, I am longing for my home.
I wasn’t cut out for shelter life.
I heard the shelter manager tell my Mom that I wouldn't be easy to find a
home for people people don't want older dogs but we need love too. I
have been a loyal and faithful dog all my life, I deserve a chance. Do you have room in your home and your heart for me?

PATIENCE
& PEPSI - Lab/Dane Mixes - Spayed & Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 13 January 2009
We
are an adorable pair! We have been together since birth and are very
close! We were adopted out together and recently came back to the
shelter after escaping from our home (back yard) numerous times. We
always stayed together the entire time so we really want a new home where
we can continue to stay together. We do well inside the house but we
were never aloud inside our previous home. We really want to be with
our people as well as each other. We are sweet, friendly, and get
along well with everyone. Just
take one look at us sleeping together on the cushion and you can tell we
are a bonded pair! |
PRANCER
ADOPTED! |
PRANCER – Gordon
Setter/Lab Mix - Neutered
Estimated Date of
Birth: 5 July 2006
I got the name
Prancer because of my long legs and my happy prancing around. I was found
on the side of the highway. I was so friendly and sweet, the lady who
found me at first thought I was lost. After trying to find my family with
no success, I was brought to a foster home. I got along great with the
other dogs there and had a lot of fun meeting the children. I love to have
my belly rubbed and my favorite thing to do is play fetch with a tennis
ball. I have been learning how to walk on a leash and other commands such
as sit and stay. I am healthy
and heartworm free. I am such an outgoing dog with a fascinating
personality. I can’t wait for you to meet me and see how friendly and
funny I am. I know you will
fall in love with me and want to take me home.

TIGER
– Pit Mix – Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 27 June 2007
My
almond eyes and constantly wagging tail will make you fall in love
instantly. I am a gentle giant, who loves to cuddle and lay beside you on
your pillow at night to sleep. I love to run around and play outside for
hours. I used to spend all day paddling at Barton Creek - I love the
water! I am great with children and dogs of all sizes, but I do tend
to intimidate cats. I get really excited though, to meet new people and
other animals, so a proper introduction is required. I would be a great
watch dog for you, and would definitely alert you when a stranger comes to
the door! I am a great, loyal, loving dog! I am house trained and crate
trained, I have had some basic obedience training, and I enjoy chewing on
my toys. I would love to stay inside the house with you during the night
and protect you from harm, but I also love to have a big back yard to run
around in. Would you like to be my new friend?!

MISSY
– Shepherd Mix
- Spayed
Estimated
Date of Birth: 14 February
2006
Our
little Missy is not very prissy. She
enjoys a nice walk or a jog, but would sleep on your couch like a log. Missy has been great with children of all sizes and loves a
good treat.
Missy
likes other dogs, but she is sensitive about her food and doesn't care to
share even a nibble of kibble.
Missy
is a sweet and affectionate dog who was found tied to a dumpster in
Sutherland Springs. She had a
note attached around her neck that said "please help me, I'm hungry
and need a home!"
Luckily
someone found Missy, so she could be fed!
Now, she just needs a loving, forever home!

Wilson seemed to fit, so that's what he got. He gets along with other

she occasionally carries it.
She
is house trained and crate trained. She

DOLLY
ADOPTED! |
DOLLY
- Malti Poo
Birthday:
5 March 2009
This
adorable little Malti Poo was found wandering on a busy street where
she could easily have been crushed. A caring man took pity on her and
picked her up. She was found with a chain & rope around her neck
she had chewed through. She was dirty, wet, cold, hungry, lost,
scared & very lucky!
She
was brought to the vet and despite a case of whip worms and ear mites
which she is being treated for, she is very healthy. Dolly is
heartworm negative and is current on her shots. She is SUPER soft and very
adorable! She is an inside dog and needs a loving family who will take
care of her. She will need constant grooming to keep her hair healthy and
knot free.
She
is completely housebroken and is crate trained. She walks
on a leash and plays great with kids who know how delicate her little
bones are. She gets along with other dogs and cats.
Dolly
is full grown and only weighs 8 1/2 pounds!

ADOPTED!
|
FRED
& BARNEY – Bassett Hounds – Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth:
Fred:
14 March 2006
Barney:
14 June 2008
This
is Fred & Barney. What a pair these two are! They are a father and son
basset hound team with a flair for excitement. They were found near a
highway and wandered up to a car dealership. The manager gave them food
and water in the bay area until he contacted the shelter. They were
covered with fleas & ticks, but after a trip to the vet they were
found to be very healthy.
They are very active and love their daily walks!
They are true hounds and keep their noses to the ground. They are
wonderful and very affectionate dogs. They love children and attention!
When they are outside in the yard, they do not like cats. When they are
inside with the housecats, they do not mind them. They also get along
great with other dogs. They have both been neutered and are both heartworm
negative. They are on monthly heartworm prevention and are current on all
their vaccines. We would prefer that Fred & Barney stay together, but
they are available separately. (They tend to mope about when away from
each other.) They need a home with an escape proof backyard! These are
active dogs that need daily walks, exercise and lots of love. They also
need a forever home that doesn't mind their occasional baying. (It's been
rare, but I'd rather tell you so you know.)

Chocolate Lab
Birthday:
14 October 2008
Hercules is a
friendly dog who is very playful and young enough he is still in the
“excited” stage. He is good with kids and has never tried to bite anyone.
He has a lot of energy to burn because is currently living on a
chain since his family doesn’t have a fenced. They love him but
this is the reason they want to find him a new home, they want him to have
a better life than what he has now. He needs a yard where he can
actually run around and play like a dog should.
If you are looking for a great new friend to take walks with or if
you just want to hang out by the fireplace, please let us know!

beautiful, fun-loving, youngster at heart with a zest for life who is just
waiting to show you how much he can learn.
He hasn't had the opportunity for any training yet, but he is ready
and willing!
When
you look at his face with his stunningly beautiful, attentive eyes and his
friendly, wiggly personality, you can't help but see all the joy and love
he has to give! We couldn't
help but get a little video clip of his excited, silly self during our
"photo shoot."
He obviously likes his water bucket and would probably enjoy a swim
too!
Mr.
Tetco is looking for an active home who will work on obedience and
housetraining and positive reinforcement to bring out all the best we (and
he) know he can be.
He
gets along well with other dogs and likes to play.
We've not seen him around kids.
He would probably be okay with older kids, but is a little
exuberant for small children as well as cats at this time.
“Tet"
was rescued as a youngster from the TETCO station and has been waiting and
hoping ever since that his forever home out there will find him!
Is it you?

DAYTONA
ADOPTED
TOGETHER!! |
STACY
& DAYTONA – Doberman Mixes – Spayed & Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 6 February
2007
Stacy
and Daytona were adopted out as out as young puppies and then returned a
year later when their owners had to move away.
Both
are fairly quiet, laid back dogs for still being such youngsters.
Stacy is very fond of her brother and follows his lead.
They are very close and would prefer to stay together.
Stacy
and Daytona are house-trained and miss being indoors with their humans, so
they need to find a new home where they can continue living inside getting
lots of TLC. They are very sweet, well behaved, and happy loving dogs.

DAKOTA
ON HOLD |
DAKOTA
– Chocolate Lab – Neutered
Date of Birth:
7 March 2004
Dakota is still a
very young dog at heart and loves to play fetch.
He will play until he falls down!
He is an athlete. He
is very tall and slender, not short and stubby like a lot of labs.
Dakota is a very beautiful dog with a great heart.
He has been an inside dog all of his life - except for outside
potty breaks and playing or going for walks.
He does enjoy the creature comforts that we humans enjoy such as a
soft place to lay down - if you'll let him.
He gets along great with cats and other dogs, including small dogs.
He is gentle natured and will just get up and move if the other
animals pester him too much. He will make a great addition to any family!

BREWSKI
- Red Heeler Mix - Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 27 December 2008
Brewski
was dumped at a local Petco store. They thought he was too sweet to
end up at the pound so they called us for help. He is living in a
foster home and doing great. He gets along well with other dogs and
is working on his house training. He is so happy that he wiggles his
entire body and not just his tail!

ANGEL
THE BLONDE
ADOPTED! |
ANGEL THE BLONDE – Terrier/Pug Mix – Spayed
Estimated Date of Birth: 29
December 2000
My name is Angel. I have a uniquely cute face, ears, and expression and a
little bob-tail to boot. I am just the right size and amount of fun to
make a great addition to your family. I am smart and attentive and even
know how to do a little standing dance for a treat. Check it out in my
video clip!
I fit in nicely and am a nice girl to have around - not one of those high
maintenance types. I am housetrained and get along with other dogs.
I had a home once where I was an indoor dog and part of family
activities. I loved spending time with my family. We moved a bunch when I
was with this family. It was fun meeting new people and going exciting
places.
But now, they moved again and this time I wasn't able to go with them.
I'm really sad and miss my family. I wish they could have taken me along
like they always did before. Now I live in an outdoor shelter with a bunch
of other dogs. I have some dog friends, but it isn't the same. I really
miss being a part of a real home and family.
If you give me a chance, I bet you'll think I'm an Angel just like my
name says.

SHANK
ADOPTED! |
SHANK
– Chihuahua
Estimated
Date of Birth: 25 August 2002
Shank
is a sweet little senior citizen who has really had a rough life.
He was a victim of abuse and was stabbed in the back of the neck.
It looks like someone tried to rip his neck open! This poor little dog never even got any vet care after he was
victimized but was so strong willed he is well on the way to healing on
his own. Instead of receiving
vet care, he was dumped at the pound and left to die.
Despite the abuse he has gotten, he is a friendly little dog who
loves attention.

DRIVEBY
ADOPTED! |
DRIVEBY
– Catahoula – Neutered
Estimated Date of
Birth: 7 April 2007
My name is Driveby
because when I was a puppy I was sitting on the side of the road with a
"free" sign and someone driving by picked me up. They kept
me for awhile and then no longer wanted me and turned me over to the
shelter. I was adopted for awhile and had my own home but it wasn't
long before they took me back to the shelter, this time with a hurt leg..
I
don't know why nobody wants me, I am really a great dog and am
good with other
dogs as well as people and children. I
HATE cats though!! I don't know why but I have to be honest with you!
I am not a cow dog. I would rather sit on the front porch and be a guard dog
than tend to livestock.
I love to get a lot of attention and am
definitely a people orientated dog.
I just know someone out there will love me unconditionally and I will find
my forever home soon.

Danny

He also likes to boss his doggy sister around and play rough.
He
gets along with other dogs but would be best paired with a less dominant
dog. He likes being on the
higher end of the pecking order.
Danny
knows basic commands and is a sweet, friendly boy.
He is crate trained but not house trained. He is very smart, though, and would pick it up quickly if

COMET
ADOPTED!
|
COMET – Anatolian
Shepherd/Shepherd Mix – Neutered
Estimated Date of Birth: 12 October 2005
Comet is a bit of a gentle
giant. He's quite a big boy
with possibly some Anatolian Shepherd in his heritage.
He enjoys playing with his dog friends, but has a calm, laid back
demeanor too.
Comet was one of a rescued
litter of pups, and has grown up in an outdoor/shelter environment without
much exposure or socialization otherwise.
He is a little shy, yet curious, and warms up quickly.
He's not too hyper and has a nice, moderate activity level.
Comet enjoys attention, being
petted, and is looking for a home willing to housetrain him, patiently
broaden his horizons, and make him part of the family.
Comet has not been around
kids, so a home with no young children will be best.

Estimated
Date of Birth: 27 January

ROMEO
SEEKS JULIET! Romeo is a
handsome lover looking for a home to love him back.
He gets along well with other dogs and loves people.
Romeo
is still a fun-loving, energetic, youngster at heart, so he will enjoy
getting some training in obedience and home manners.
He would probably like to have another dog to play with since he
gets bored easily. Romeo is
gentle and kind; however we have not seen him around children or cats. We
do not think children will be a problem due to his friendly demeanor but a
home without cats might be best.

KRISTY
ADOPTED!
|
KRISTY – Lab/Redbone
Hound
- Spayed
Estimated Date of
Birth: 14 August 2008
Kristy
is a very mellow dog who loves everyone.
She is great with other dogs as well.
She can jump a 4-foot fence so she needs one taller than that so
that she doesn’t escape.
Cheeto & Kristy
were found in the middle of Eisenhauer Road.
There was heavy traffic and their rescuer was wondering why
everyone was at a stand still. Suddenly,
she noticed Cheeto & Kristy in the middle of the road and she saw
Kristy pulling Cheeto away from the traffic!
At that point, she realized she had to do something.
She called every no kill shelter she could find but nobody had
room. She had an appointment
with the pound that morning and was desperate.
That’s when she found us, and now these two great dogs are safe
and looking for their forever homes!

ADOPTED
TOGETHER!

BRANDY & TASHA
– Catahoula/Akita Mix Puppies
Estimated Date of
Birth: 3 February 2009
Brandy & Tasha
were in line at the San Antonio Animal Care Services to be turned in by
someone who had seen them as they were being thrown from the window of a
moving car. Apparently, the person who was tossing them out of the
window was trying to get them over the fence at a daycare center that was
closed at the time. There were 4 of
them but the person who witness this horrible act kept the two boys and
was hoping to find good homes for the girls. One of our
volunteers was at ACS at the time and when she saw them in line she asked
the person to please take them back home and give her some time to
contact us and promised to come pick them up
and bring them to us. They
are both very sweet and just precious.

CLOUD
ADOPTED!
|
CLOUD
– Smooth Coat Border Collie Mix – Neutered
Estimated
Date of Birth: 22 May 2004
Cloud
is intelligent, agile, energized, fun, and active as characteristic of the
breed. He LOVES to swim, run,
fetch and play frisbee.
He
is crate trained and house trained. He
often stays indoors, though he does well outside too. Cloud enjoys being included in outings, riding in the car,
and is happiest when he is with his people!
He
is looking for a home with active people who can meet his exercise needs
and entertain his sharp mind. He
would be an excellent candidate for agility or another doggy sport.
He would also be a great jogging pawtner, fun lake dog, or frisbee
pal.
Cloud
has not been around a lot of kids, but the ones he has met have excited
him very much. He may do best
with kids who are a little older.
Cloud
has been an only dog, is very people oriented, and would be perfectly
happy being the only pet in his new home.
No cats for Cloud. He
mostly gets along with other dogs, but he seems to have his own judge of
character criteria that only Cloud knows, and he has met a few he didn't
like so much. When leash
walking with his people, he has always been fine with other dogs who want
to meet him and takes more of a submissive role letting them sniff and
nudge him.
Cloud
has been a valued family member, but sadly his parents are moving overseas
for work, and he cannot go with them.
Do you have a place in your heart and home for this loving, loyal
companion?

What breed are
we? Your guess is as good as ours! We have no idea what these
adorable puppies are mixed with. We only know they were thrown in a
river and left to drown. Fortunately, a good Samaritan who witnessed this
horrific scene was able to rescue them from the flowing river in time to
save their lives! However, he dropped them off in someone else's
driveway! Thankfully they are safe now but they all need homes of
their own! These puppies have endured to much in the past few weeks
but they are happy, healthy, and eager to please!

BLONDIE
– Yellow Lab Mix
- Spayed
Estimated
Date of Birth: 19 April 2008
Hi! I am a 6-month old, Labrador mix named Blondie! I look exactly
like my father who is a full blooded yellow lab so I will most likely grow
pretty big. I was born in April of 2008 and I already weigh 48 pounds. I
would love to belong to a human family that has a large, fenced yard with
lots of room to run around. I have had all my shots. I have been spayed
and am heartworm free. When I first came to my foster home I was shy of
other dogs. All that has changed! It didn’t take me long to warm up to
the other dogs and now I get along great with all of them! I love playing
and running around. I also love my daily walks and especially chew toys.
(I am a puppy after all!) I have begun learning a few commands. I have
mastered sit and am working on learning to stay. I am very smart and have
a lot of potential for learning other commands. My favorite thing to do is
fetch tennis balls! What I really need is a family that will give me as
much love as I will give them.

PJ

PJ
– Unknown Mix - Scheduled for Neuter
Birthday December
16, 2005
My
name is PJ. I was abandoned by the family I had since I was a puppy. They
decided they didn’t want me anymore and left me to starve by the
highway. I don’t know why they did this to me because I am such a good
dog. I proved this when I was rescued and brought to my foster family. I
joined my foster pack with no problems. I didn’t bark or dig or jump. I
was so thankful to have someone to take care of me and help me find a new
home. I started putting on weight and after my first visit to the vet, was
found to have no health problems including being heartworm free. I am so
friendly and pleasant. I love children and am gentle with them. I am an
unusually quiet dog, but I can bark. I would make a great addition to any
family. I hope you will contact my shelter and at least meet me. I’m
sure when you do, you will fall in love with my sweet disposition. I pray
you will make me a part of you family.

REBECCA
ADOPTED! |
REBECCA – Collie/German Shepherd Mix – Spayed
Estimated Date of Birth: 14 March 2000
Rebecca is one of those super sweet dogs who melts
your heart with the look of love in her eyes she gives you. She is such a
nice, easy-to-have-around girl who really loves her people and doesn't ask
for much, but has so much to give.
Rebecca had a family but was returned to the shelter
when they moved and could not take her. She would really enjoy having the
human companionship and comforts of being a housedog again.
Rebecca loves people, and gets along great with most
other dogs. She prefers less dominant doggy friends who just want to hang
out and be friends. She's not into macho, roughhousing. She enjoys her
current doggy roommate.
Rebecca will follow you anywhere for attention! She
enjoys quiet nights on the couch watching a good movie and would probably
prefer a quieter home without a lot of hustle and bustle or young
children.
Although she prefers being inside with her family,
she doesn't mind the outdoors as long as she has companionship. She is a
happy dog who is easy to please.

BLACKIE
ADOPTED! |
BLACKIE - Black
Lab Mix - Neutered
Estimated Date of Birth:
25 October 2006
Starved and
Abused OK Rescue Puppy Seeks Loving Forever Home!
This sweet puppy
came to us all the way from Oklahoma!
Blackie and his
brother Brownie were rescued from an abusive home in Oklahoma.
Their “owners” used to starve, neglect, and abuse the dogs. For
entertainment, they would throw small scraps of meat between the dogs and
make them fight for it!
Once in animal
control, they were well fed and stopped fighting over food.
Brownie was taken in by an OK rescue group leaving Blackie all
alone. He screamed for his
brother when they took him away. No one wanted Blackie because he is a
black dog, which are the last dogs to be rescued or adopted from shelters. Blackie stayed at the shelter while his rescuer tried and
tried to find a rescue to take him. She
begged to have his kill date delayed, time and time again. Finally, we
were able to arrange transport from Oklahoma to Texas!
Despite the abuse
Blackie has suffered at the hands of humans, he is the most loving,
affectionate dog you will meet! He
is so starved for attention, it is almost as if he is trying to make up
for all the love he missed out on in his first year of his life.
He does tend to bounce and jump up to get your attention – can
you blame him?? He is probably scared to death that he will be tossed out
and forgotten and starved again.
Understandably,
Blackie does have some issues with other dogs, especially around food.
He is young enough that he could be worked with to resolve this.
He is house trained though!

SOPHIE
ADOPTED! |
SOPHIE -
BLACK LAB - Spayed
Estimated Date of Birth:
1 December 2006
SUPER SOPHIE.
My foster parents say I am wonderful wonderful wonderful! I am great
with other dogs, kids of all ages, and even cats. I don't even mind
those silly cats rubbing up against me.
My foster mom says I am housetrained but yummy food on the countertops is
still a little more temptation than I can ignore. "What?"
I say, "I thought it was all for me!" Mom says "we're
working on it," whatever that means.
I'm just an overall lovable Lab personality -- you know, that bubbly, fun,
friendly kinda girl. I would like a home with a fenced yard.
Some occasional outings would be super. I like meeting new people
and doing things.

CHANCE
ADOPTED!
|
CHANCE
- Westie Mix - Neutered
Estimated Date of
Birth: 20 March 2003
This little man is a darling, short-legged Terrier mix who only stands 8" (shoulder height) tall. He is really a lover and will moan with appreciation of a hug and kiss. A former street kid, now on the other side of the tracks, he's taking advantage of all the good lovin' and care he can get!
He plays well with others and likes to explore new places, but stays close to home. He could be comfortable in a Manhattan apartment or on the King Ranch. Mostly, he is not concerned with geography, a warm lap will do.
Chance is a Terrier in nature with his energetic, busy personality. He is not yet housebroken, but working on crate-training although he's not too fond of the concept. A little time will go along way with this little man that is all soul!

pretty eyes, attentive expression, and fluffy little self. She is small
and compact and like a living, stuffed teddy bear with her soft, plush

is eagerly awaiting for a forever family and couch to call her own.

SHADOW
ADOPTED! |
SHADOW – Flat Coated Retriever/Lab/Border Collie
Mix – Spayed
Estimated Date of Birth: 20 December 2004
SHADOW is really a beautiful dog with a heart of
gold. Even though she was
dumped in the middle of a country road with her siblings as puppies and
has grown up in an outdoor shelter environment without much exposure or
socialization otherwise, she is amazingly confident, friendly, and loving.
Shadow gets along well with other dogs and has an
overall pleasant personality and demeanor.
She will make an excellent companion for anyone willing to spend a
little time teaching her some basics.
She likes to get hugs and is not overly hyper.
This girl is a diamond in the rough, and it's not too rough at
that, because she is already so sweet with a naturally great temperament
and is very beautiful with her luxurious, soft, shiny coat and winning
smile! She just needs minimal
polishing and schooling in becoming your best family companion.
Shadow is so laid back that house
training should be a breeze. She
would be awesome with children and probably wouldn’t even be bothered by
cats, although we don’t know that for sure.

CLOUD
Cloud was adopted as a
young puppy and returned 4 1/2 years later when his parents took a 5-year
assignment overseas and weren't able to take him with them. Poor
Cloud! He was so used to having an active life style and going to the
beaches and now he was back in the shelter. He never complained though, he
was a great dog, but you could tell he missed his life. Well, today,
thanks to John and Mary Carol, Cloud has that life back and we couldn't be
happier!! Cloud is once again a happy dog enjoying life and doing what he
loves best! Thank you so much John and Mary! Here's what his new parents
have to say:
Hi Kim,
I am
writing to let you know that Cloud is doing GREAT! We just got back from
the vet (where I nearly choked on the bill!), because we are getting ready to
have Cloud’s teeth cleaned. While we were there, the vet gave him a
thorough exam and said he is perfect. But we knew that already.
He is
amazingly well adjusted already. He is in the house with me right now
lying down and resting from his big morning. He has been super
affectionate and loving. And we are loving him back. Other than
love, Cloud lives to play ball and Frisbee. He is ready to play for hours
at a time.
My
whole family loves pets and are very excited that we have a new dog. Thank
you again for all your persistence in finding Cloud a home. He has the
right home.
We
took Cloud to the lake house with us for the first time last weekend. What
a blast! He has proven once again that he is the perfect pet and
perfect playmate. He is ready to play anytime, anyplace. When he is in the
house, he plays with his own toys by himself and also lays at our feet. I
have not traveled anywhere for my job in the last two weeks as I couldn't
bear to leave the dog! I better start getting back to my job ASAP before I
get in trouble. Hah! Thank you for the perfect pet and companion, Cloud is
loved very much!!"
Best
regards, Mary Carol

BLAZE
Just an update to
let you know that Blaze is doing awesome. He is such an unbelievable dog. He
LOVES to snuggle on the couch with us, but is also getting so confident.
He was always sweet and gentle, but now he is frisky and fun-loving too (when he
wants to run on the trails, he just follows you around prancing and looking cute
until you take him) - and he's sooooo smart. Your website looks great, by
the way, and the pictures of the dogs are fabulous! We are just so
grateful to have Blaze, and he wouldn't be alive if it hadn't been for you. It
must seem so overwhelming with so many dogs that need homes, but you make
such a difference!
Thanks again!

SASHA
Dear
Las Lomas,
Hello to all my friends and former foster family! I was recently adopted
into a new home, the Bickel Family and since then I have never been happier!!! I
now live in Corpus Christi with 4 dogs and one cat. I have a new best friend
Kai, a Border- Terrier mix. We spend the days playing and having fun.
My
new owners Walter and Carol are great! They have a teenage son and at night I
sleep inside with him. I watch over him when he sleeps. We have bonded and I
love him so much. During the day I can go outside to run around and play or
lounge around inside the house. I get treats when I’m good and I never miss a
meal.
Thank
you Las Lomas for helping me find this wonderful family. I don’t know where
I’d be today if my foster family hadn’t taken me. Before I came to Las Lomas
I was so lonely and sad. I didn’t know there were caring people in the world.
But there are and you helped find them for me. Because of you I have a great
life. I never knew so much happiness!
I
hope you continue to work as hard as you can for the friends I left behind. I
know they are all good dogs and will one day find a home as wonderful as mine.
Until they do, keep up the work and never lose faith.
Your friend,
Sasha
A
few words from Sasha’s new family: Sasha
is such a wonderful dog. She has
fit into our family real well. Sasha
& Kai are like two peas in a pod. They
are constantly together & always playing.
In fact when Sash went to be spayed Kai mopped all day until her return. Our older dogs don 't mind her a bit either but they are just
to old to play with her. Sasha
loves to go walking & she also loves our family farm. Here are some pictures of her, the other dogs, & my son. We
want to thank you for letting us have her & everything you have done for us.
Sasha is a real joy to our family
& we love her lots.

SASHA AND HER NEW FAMILY

SINKER AND SETON
Hello,
my name is Seton, and I picked up Sinker, a smooth coat Border Collie, from Las
Lomas in December 2007 right before Christmas. I grew up with a Border
Collie and she was the best friend I could have. Sinker and I enjoy the
outdoors including saltwater fishing in Port O’Conner. Sinker loves
anything with water and enjoys kayaking, backpacking, road trips and washing the
car. Sinker is the friendliest dog in
Texas
and proves it to everybody at every opportunity.
I am delighted I to have found Sinker (aka Sissy), at Las Lomas, where everyone
is very friendly, helpful and thorough. Thank you.
Seton
& Sinker

Alice, Jim & Tillie
Tilley
Tilley &
Alice
Tilley, Alice & Shady
Tillie came to us as a very shy and
scared little girl. She was only a young pup and it was obvious she had
been abused. When Alice & Jim Jackson saw her picture and read her
story, they fell in love as their eyes filled with tears and their hearts drew
them towards this once sad and lonely little dog. They drove down here from Spicewood,
Texas to meet her and spent hours just loving her and talking to her. They knew she needed them and they were not going home without
her! Today, Tilllie is an adult, full of love, happiness, and a brand new
life she never could have ever dreamed possible. She lives the life of a
queen in her new home and you would never know that she was the same lost and
terrified dog. Alice & Jim still keep in touch with us after all these years,
sending us pictures, donations, and even sponsoring other dogs in need.
They are an awesome couple! Jim is headed back for Iraq in April, so
please keep the Jackson family in your prayers!
 Jessica
Jessica
(Jess) is a very lucky dog!! She
came to us from a kill shelter in North Texas where she was faced with death and
didn’t have much to time escape. Our
Vice President saved her just in the nick of time!
She drove all the way up there to get Jessica and brought her back to our
vet clinic so she could be treated for heartworms.
Once she was released from the hospital, she was being transported to a
no kill shelter in Brazoria where she would recoup from her treatments and
eventually find her forever home. Well…the
day she was in route to Houston, a wonderful family called us and expressed
interest in her. It was too late to
stop the transport but they were willing to drive all the way to pick her up!
After reviewing their application, and speaking to them personally, we
were so excited because we knew Jess was soon to be on her way to an awesome
home where she would be loved forever! We
couldn’t have asked for a better home and the Koehler’s couldn’t have
asked for a better dog! This was a
match made in heaven and we believe it was just meant to be!
So Tom Koehler and a few of their children piled in the mini van and made
the drive all the way to Houston while Denise Koehler and one of the other
children were at a soccer game trying to get through the day, the entire time,
with anticipation and excitement on the arrival of their newest family member!
Pure joy filled their hearts and their home when their eyes met and what
a blessing this was for our little Jess who was so close to death and now has so
much life to live!!!
We want
to share some words with you from Jess’ new Mom
“Jessica
is HOME!!!! And she is LOVED LOVED
LOVED. I keep thinking to myself,
how is this possible? She's too
good to be true! She's gorgeous, we
bathed her and she's so shiny clean. And
she is so gentle and sweet and affectionate and darling!
And the part that was a HUGE blessing to us was that she politely sniffed
our cats and that's it. No chasing
or aggression...just a polite mild interest. And so my cats are FINE and they're not scared or freaked out
by this new large stranger in their lives.
Jessica, now named Luna, is snuggling with my youngest daughter as I type
this.
It's
weird because it's like we've been given a treasure and now I'm afraid of losing
it! I am trying not to worry about
her heartworms...we're making sure she doesn't run around, but when she sleeps a
lot we automatically start thinking is she okay?!?
I will try not to worry.”
Jess
(Luna) is doing great and recovering wonderfully and we are so thankful to her
new family who now shares their home and their love with this sweet and
deserving dog!! Once she has
recovered from her treatments, she will begin agility training!
A
YEAR WITH LUNA (AKA Jessica)
Trace
Trace
is a very special dog and he now has a very special home!! This dog was
dumped in the country when he was about 5 years old. Property owners were
moving to Colorado and couldn't keep him. We took him in and he was
heartworm positive, missing his bottom teeth, and suffering from kidney damage
which meant he had to be on a very special (and expensive) diet. Poor dog
had been through a a lot and we didn't think he would ever find a home, other
than with us at the shelter! Well, when Trace turned 7 years old, Robert
& Jenny Fears came in to our lives, it changed Trace's life forever!
They fell in love with him unconditionally and couldn't wait to take him home
with them! He now has an awesome family where he is living the life of a
King and soaking up the AC!! What a difference they made in the life of
Trace!! We thank them from the bottom of our hearts!!!
Silver & Lelu
Dorothy & Brian Birch adopted
Silver from us in November 2000. Silver
couldn't have found a better home and he has been so well loved and cared for. His
Mom and Dad have kept in touch with us all this time and when they were ready
for a second dog, they came back to us in January 2003 and adopted Lelu (now
named Copper)!! WOW!
What a wonderful and beautiful family!
These two dogs are happy as they can be and make a wonderful team.
They have fantastic parents and we are very thankful to them for giving
two of our dogs all the love and care they deserve!
Every dog should be so lucky!
Unfortunately, Brian was
unavailable for pictures when these were taken, but you can bet he is
just as happy as Mom!!! This is one family that will
stay together!!!
ZhaZha
WOW! What a success story this is! We received an email from Demery Shain,
who lives in Seattle, Washington, requesting an application on our dog, ZhaZha.
Little did we know, she would soon be booking a flight from Seattle all the way
to San Antonio to adopt ZhaZha into her wonderful family!!! She checked in to a
hotel in San Antonio late Friday night and drove out to Floresville on Saturday
to complete the paperwork and pick up her new baby! ZhaZha, now known as Eva,
will be flying home to Seattle on Tuesday morning where she will live life as a
Queen! She will be living indoors and will travel with her new Mom anywhere she
goes! Demery is a vet tech and also has a pet sitting service. She is terrific
with animals and is definitely an angel in our eyes! We are still in shock that
she would travel so far to adopt a dog but know that this will be a really
fantastic forever home! Thank you Demery and best of luck to you and Eva!!!
Angie
Angie was at our shelter for 2 1/2 years before she ever
got adopted!
She is such a beautiful dog and a loving, kind, and
loyal friend! She had 7
puppies shortly after she came to us. All of them have been adopted. Angie also had
heartworms. Once the puppies were weaned,
we had her treated for heartworms then
had her spayed. She was a healthy,
happy dog waiting for that perfect family
to come along. Recently, a couple who
had been looking for a dog like her, met her and
fell in love with her! She
is now living a life of luxury and is the
one running the home! She gets
to stay indoors where it is nice
and warm during the Winter and cool during the
Summer. She pretty much does as she
pleases and her adoptive parents are very
happy with her! She goes for nice walks every day
and gets lots of attention!
Shilo
Shilo is a purebred beagle who was rescued by us from a vet
clinic in San Antonio. Somebody
picked him up off the streets, he had been hit by a car.
The clinic wanted $400 to do the surgery and the people didn't have the
money. They were going to put him
to sleep. Fortunately, somebody
there knew us and gave us a call. We
took him to our vet and had his leg repaired.
It healed so perfectly you couldn't even tell it was ever broken!
We nursed him back to health and his recovery went very well.
Shilo was been adopted several times and was been returned for different
reasons. The last family let him
put lots of weight on which desperately needs to come off!
Finally, he was seen on our web site by somebody in Brownsville who fell
in love with him despite his added pounds!
She drove all the way to Floresville to pick him up and is so excited to
have him! We hear from her frequently and she says Shilo is doing
great! She absolutely loves him.
He is living indoors and gets to go on nice long walks with his new Mom
who has him on a diet and is
determined to get the extra weight off!
Amber
Amber is a very lucky dog!
When she came to us, she had a broken leg and couldn't walk on it at all.
She also had a lot of nerve damage and we weren't sure if it would ever
heal completely. She stood a good
chance of losing her leg. With
proper veterinary care, lots of love and prayers, and the help of God, she
miraculously healed! Six months
later, she was walking like a normal dog with all her feeling back!
She was very fortunate recently to have been given a good home where she
lives indoors and has lots of love from her new
parents!
Callie
Callie came to us when she was 6 weeks old.
She brought with her 7 littermates.
She lived all her puppy life and part of her adult life here at the
shelter. Recently, she got a
wonderful home where she has the run of the house!
She is living with a wonderful couple, their 2 kids, 2 others dogs, and 3
cats!!! What a family she has now!
She is doing great and her new family really loves her!
In fact, they are thinking of adopting another dog from us because they
love Callie so much! By the way,
Callie also has a new name...Ellie. What
a wonderful Christmas present!!
Copper
& Fritz
Copper & Fritz were both at our shelter for over a
year. Copper was abandoned by his
family and Fritz was left on the side of the road after being hit by a car. The two of the became buddies and lived with us for a long
time. One night, destiny arrived
and swept both of them off their feet! YEAH!
How lucky could they be to get adopted together and have such a nice new
home! They are living indoors and
we are told have since gotten new K9
friends to share their home with. They
are in good hands and are enjoying the home life
with a family who really cares for them!
Jasmine
Jasmine came to us from a bus depot near Helotes.
It took rescuers months to gain her trust enough to be able to catch her!
She had to have surgery on her ear and lots of TLC to adjust to humans.
She didn't trust anyone at first but it didn't take her long to realize
she was loved by all of us and nobody would hurt her!
She became very friendly and comfortable here at the shelter.
It took her a long time but she finally found the home of her dreams! She is living indoors and has another dog to share her life
with, along with a young couple who spend lots of time with their K9 friends.
They go on lots of long walks and she enjoys being inside with her
family. We're told she is very
happy and is
very loved.
Cocoa
Cocoa came to us after her elderly owners were no longer able to care for her. She was 3 1/2 years old, and malnourished. Growing up in such a calm, quiet environment, Cocoa shied
away from crowds of people and other animals. A military man temporarily assigned to the area fell in love with her, and immediately called his wife in Seattle. They have a small child, and were looking for a well-behaved dog who
would do well with children. After a few days and some phone calls to the airlines, Cocoa got on a plane to Washington, and was greeted by her new family.
Cocoa is now happily settling in to family life in the northwest. We expect her to live a long and fulfilling life.
Teddy,
Eddie and Smokey
Teddy and Eddie had been with us for some time, and became best of friends. While we always hope that best friends be kept together, their being large, playful chow-mix dogs, they
would be a big undertaking even in a single-dog household. At the annual KISS Pet Adoption Day, a young family fell in love with Teddy, but were unable to manage the adoption fee for two dogs, so unfortunately, Eddie was left behind. After a
few days, seeing how sad and upset both dogs were, some friends of the Foundation got together, and each donated a portion of the adoption fee so that the two dogs could be reunited.
When Eddie was brought to his new home, Teddy was so excited, he brought over his brand new bone, and laid it at Eddie's feet.
Through conversations with the family, we found out that a relative of theirs, who saw us at Petsmart just a few weeks before the KISS Pet Adoption Day, ended up adopting one of our
puppies, Smokey, and think he's just the best dog they've had!
