NOTE:  The shelter is located on private property and the gates are kept locked.  If you are interested in adopting a dog, please review our adoption policies and procedures.   Once you have done this, please fill out the adoption application and email it to us.  Once we have processed your application, we will call you for an appointment.  We all work full time jobs and do not have set hours of operation.  We all do this in our space time and we are very limited!  All dogs are kept on private property and shown by appointment only after your application has been approved.  Applications must be filled out completely in order to be processed.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Since we are a small shelter, and have a limited number of volunteers who also work full time jobs, our time is very limited as well.  We have developed some guidelines to help streamline the process and make things easier and quicker for you as well as for us.

We are looking for good, loving, safe, and caring homes for our pets.  Please review our policies before submitting an application.  Once the application is received, if you are interested in a particular dog, we will put the dog on hold for you while we process your application.  Once we have completed the application process, we will call you to schedule an appointment so that you can meet the dog.  If you decide to adopt, we have a contract we will ask you to sign and it will contain all of the medical information that the dog has received up to the time of adoption.  Any medical treatment the dog needs after the time of adoption is your responsibility.  You must agree to regular checkups, annual vaccinations, and monthly heartworm prevention, as well as any other medical care your vet deems necessary for the dog.  If the dog is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, you will be required to sign an agreement to have this done, at your expense, and you will need to provide proof that it was done by the date indicated on the contract.

You must have a safe and securely fenced in back yard, complete on all sides.  Depending on the dog you are interested in, the fence may have certain requirements as well.  If you live in an apartment, you must take the dog out for regular walks, the dog must be on a leash at all times.

Dogs are part of the family and should be treated as such.  That being said, dogs should not be left outside all alone.  Dogs are pack animals, they get very bored and lonely when they are left by themselves.  Many of the dogs who end up in the pound are dogs who have escaped from their yards.   These dogs have very little or no chance of ever finding their way home because many times they are put down before the owner even realizes their dog is missing.  Keeping a dog inside the house, in a kennel if not yet house trained, is a very safe and humane solution.  Please see our  information on crate training belowThe number one reason people surrender their animals is because of destructive behavior.  Crate training eliminates that behavior and saves many lives.

Statistics show that over 40 percent of the dogs that are adopted from a shelter are surrendered to the pound or given away by some other means.  If you adopt a dog from us, and are no longer able to keep him/her, you must agree to return the dog to us.  He/she can not be sold, given away, taken to another shelter, etc.  We have very strict policies on this not only for the protection of the dog but for your peace of mind as well as ours.

Our standard adoption fee is $120.  In some cases, this may vary.  Any variances in fees will be posted on the website along with the dogs' pictures so you will know what the adoption fee is ahead of time.  In some cases, when you adopt two dogs from us, we may be able to give you a discount.  This will be considered on a case by case basis.  We like to follow up on our adoptions and we always love to hear from you!

Our shelter is currently full.  If you have adopted a dog from us, and need to return him/her, we will make arrangements since it is our policy to take the dogs back so please don't hesitate to call us if this is the case!

However, we are not able to take in any new dogs at this time.  There are other ways we can help you though.  For $15 we will post your dogs on all of our websites in an effort to help you find your dog a good home.  We will also assist you with the application and screening process.  Please send us current pictures along with any information you may have about the dog so that we can better help him/her find the right home.  All dogs need to be current on shots, current on monthly heartworm prevention, and spayed/neutered if they are at least 6 months old.  Please mail proof of all medical information to Las Lomas K9 Rescue, PO Box 494, Floresville TX  78114.  Please email pictures and your story to us.   Also, include a name and phone number where we can reach you.
