HELGA (Before grooming)

HELGA (After grooming!)

HELGA - Patterdale/Tibetan Terrier Mix Female - Spayed

Estimated Birthday:  23 March 2004

Helga is a very gentle dog who has obviously been through a lot.  Rescued from a kill facility, she is very lucky with many happy days ahead of her.  Her coat is very soft and requires regular grooming.  She has a docked tail and is missing some of her teeth.  She does well with dogs and cats.  It is not known how she will react with children.  We recommend constant supervision with any child until behavior can be established, but especially with small children because she is an older dog.  She has a lot of spunk in her step and is looking for a family she can spend the rest of her life with.

Helga was named after Helga's Pet Grooming in San Antonio!

Helga went to Petsmart to be groomed!  Here are a few words from her Foster Mom:  She is truly an amazing dog with a great personality!  She is very obedient, listens well on command and gets along great with other dogs and cats.  She enjoys being on your lap and loves affection and likes to give affection.

.

POLLY

POLLY - Poodle/Schnauzer Mix Female

Estimated Birthday:  19 October 2007

Polly is a sweet little dog who was surrendered by her owners because they couldn't take care of her.  She is housetrained and good with other dogs and children.

NACHO

NACHO - Chihuahua Mix Male - Neutered

Birthday:  1 February 2009

This little cutie is a highway rescue. He is so sweet and loves to play with other dogs and children. He is partially housebroken, but occasionally marks his territory especially when around other male dogs, so his foster home keeps him a "diaper" on him. He will sleep in his crate if he chooses or hang out in there during the day, but he prefers to sleep in the bed, under the sheets and by your side! He is a warm, fuzzy and such a cuddler!!!  Nacho loves to sit in your lap during car rides and enjoys walks on a leash. He gets along great with cats. He is neutered, on heartworm preventative, current on shots and will be micro-chipped. This little fellow would make a wonderful addition to your home.

BANDIT

BANDIT

ADOPTED!

BOO

DALLAS

SPONSORED BY MARIANNE WAUGH

BOO, BANDIT & DALLAS – St Bernard/Border Collie/Hound Mix Males

Birthday: 9 September 2012

These sweet brothers were dumped near a busy highway and left to fend for themselves. Thank goodness a kind man picked them all up and brought them home to his wife who is a volunteer for Las Lomas K9 Rescue.  It took the all male trio a day or so to get used to their new home and care takers. Once they realized they were safe and being cared for they warmed up and began to show their personalities. Boo is the jokester of the bunch. Smaller than his brothers he loves to play tag and roll around. Dallas is the lover. He nudges the others out of the way so he can be the center of your attention. Bandit is the sweetheart, reserved and calm. This fun loving group of pups are growing fast. They are very smart learning simple commands but prefer to play. Current on shots and heartworm prevention, They will be micro-chipped and are scheduled to be neutered. Please open your heart and home and adopt a k9 friend for life!

WHITEY

WHITEY - Pure Bred Maltese – Neutered

Birthday:  1 July 2005

Whitey was rescued from a breeder in October of 2011. His official breeder name was Eric, but his foster family found that too formal. He is not house broken so he wears a "diaper" while he is in the house. He prefers to lay in his crate but we keep the door open so he doesn't feel trapped the way he did when he was with the breeder. He likes the security of his crate but has discovered a whole new world in the back yard. He is very sweet natured. He loves to play with other dogs and is compatible with cats. He loves to be dressed as you can see and every morning he does his yoga stretches which are super cute. He is neutered, on heartworm preventative, current on his shots and will be micro-chipped. He would be a great addition to any home looking for an older, more settled small dog!

PAULY

SPONSORED BY John & Carmen Lenz

PAULY – Toy Poodle/Terrier Mix Male

Birthday:  8 September 2012

This sweet baby boy was turned over by his owner because she couldn't take care of him any longer. He is very friendly and loves to cuddle! He enjoys baths and likes to be brushed. He is crate trained & very playful!!! He gets along with other dogs, kids & cats. Pauly would make a wonderful addition to any family.

WALLE

WALLE – Yellow Lab Mix – Neutered

Estimated Birthday: 1 Jan 09

Estimated Adult Weight: 90 lbs.

Hi, I'm WallE (yes, my foster mom's daughter named me after the movie), and I'm a wonderful not-so-little guy with a disability. I was found in a laying ditch along a country road, starving, hairless, and unable to walk. We've solved the starving and hairless problems -- I'm filling out thanks to decent food and the mange is all gone -- and my walking has gotten much better too.  They thought I would need surgery to truly be able to move around well but now I am getting around much better than they thought I would and the doctor doesn’t recommend surgery anymore!  I was apparently hit by a car and my hip and back leg were damaged, but I'm not in pain and I kind of hop with my back legs together to get around. I appear to be a yellow lab or yellow lab retriever mix, and I'm going to make the BEST friend for someone some day -- could it be you?

LIZZY

LIZZY – Yellow Lab Mix

Estimated Birthday:  4 April 2009

Lizzy showed up at the Floresville pound.  Efforts to find her owners failed.  We were able to get her out just moments before they were going to kill her.  She has ear mites and is heartworm positive.  We are working on getting her well.  Lizzy is very sweet and a medium size dog, weighing only 54 pounds.  She absolutely goes nuts when you get the water hose out, she loves to play in it and tries to catch the water as it comes out of the hose!  It is quite comical to watch her dancing around!  She should be ready for adoption around mid-late July.

MINDI
MINDI - Daschund/Beagle Mix Female - Spayed

Birthday:  28 June 2009

Mindi is a loveable, 20+ pounds female doxie mix. She was rescued from a kill shelter the day she was to be put down. We just couldn't let that happen! She enjoys cuddling with her foster family and snuggling up under the covers. She is playful, walks great on a leash, gets along with other dogs and loves to play with children. She also likes to run around and play outside, but she is an inside dog. She is very friendly and loves to have her belly rubbed. House trained, crate trained and always ready for a treat! Mindi needs a home with no cats. She is HW negative, current on shots, spayed & micro-chipped.

ROMEO

ROMEO - Catahola/Lab - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  27 January 2006

Romeo is a handsome lover looking for a home to love him back.  He gets along well with other dogs and loves people.

Romeo is a fun-loving, energetic, youngster at heart, he was recently returned to the shelter when his Dad lost his home and had no where to go where he could take Romeo with him.  He really wants him back but that doesn't seem possible and Romeo is mourning the life he had.  He really misses living indoors with his human partner.  He enjoys the company of other dogs and even lived with cats in his previous home.

Min Pin Mix Puppies (4 Males, 2 Females)

Birthday:  19 December 2012

Mom was dumped out in Floresville and already has a home but her 6 puppies are looking for their new home.  Mom is only about 30 pounds and definitely a mix of several breeds.  She almost looks like a big Doxie with long legs but obviously her puppies are all quite different.  We don't think they will be bigger than 40 pounds at best but can't say for sure.  As they grow they look more and more like Min Pins.

FRANK
FRANK - White German Shepherd/Husky Mix

Birthday:  30 November 2011

Frank was recently dumped in the county and was running from home to home looking for food and companionship.  Even though he is super sweet and laid back, and gets along with every dog he meets, nobody wanted him.  They don't have fences and he kept running off and coming back.  One of the neighbors threatened to shoot him because they didn't
know anyone else who wanted a dog and didn't know what else to do with him.  When I saw him it broke my heart.  He is so gentle.  He was named after Frank Sinatra.....blue eyes.......

CAMRY

CAYENNE

CAMRY & CAYENNE - Lab Mixes - Spayed

Birthday:  27 April 2010

Camry and Cayenne are just 2 of 18 dogs that we rescued from a field.  They are feral dogs and have never had any human contact until we came along.  We fed them for over a year and still couldn't gain their trust.  We had to enlist help in trapping them, one at a time.  The puppies were adopted out and most of the adults ended up with good neighbors who are taking care of them and giving them a good life even though they may never be able to touch them.  These two ended up here at Las Lomas.  They are still very shy and afraid of people but have never been aggressive.  It is so much fun to watch them play together and finally see their tails wagging!  They love to talk to us while we clean and feed and they seem very content.  We continue to work with them as best we can but they are going to need someone with experience in handling fearful dogs.

BRENDA

BRENDA - Plott Hound/Pit Mix - Spayed

Birthday:  2 December 2011

This beautiful young dog was picked up by the Floresville City Pound & scheduled to be euthanized because her owner had not claimed her. She is lucky to have been rescued by Las Lomas K9 Rescue! She has a beautiful brindle coat & is waiting for you to take her home! She is a great family dog & loves to play with kids & people. She has a lot of energy & needs a back yard with lots of room to play! She has begun training to walk on a leash & sit when commanded. She has been with her foster family since she was 5 months old and is socialized with other dogs.

CARMELLA

CARMELA - Plott Hound - Spayed

Birthday:  3 February 2009

This beautiful Plott Hound was a special rescue from the LaVernia City Park. She had been shot in the leg & wandered the park for over a year while citizens tried to rescue her. Her leg had been shattered by a 22 & dangled where the bone was broken. Unable to catch her, a group of citizens tried to gain her trust & left food & water for Carmela over the hot summer months. By December she had disappeared only to return in February with a litter of 11 puppies. By then she was finally trusting us enough to accept the help we offered. A team of people helped with the rescue & the dogs ended up at the home of a Las Lomas foster family.  Carmela & her puppies received immediate medical treatment. The puppies, once healthy were either adopted by LaVernia citizens or brought to the Animal Defense League in San Antonio where they would find forever homes, but Carmela would need an expensive surgery to fix her leg. The community came together once again and through bake sales, rummage sales & donations raised enough money to pay for her surgery. During the first surgery her shattered bones were "put" back together like a jig saw puzzle only a couple of pieces were gone. This caused her leg to be 2 inches shorter than the other & added strain to her hips & back. A 2nd surgery was scheduled and the leg was removed.  Since then, Carmela has had a complete recovery. She is completely healthy & a changed dog. She still lives with her foster family & is house trained. She loves to lay around outside & hang out with other dogs. She gets along with kids & has become a wonderful family pet. Her most favorite thing in the world is to have someone scratch her neck & ear on the right side of her body, where her missing leg cannot reach. She needs a loving home where she can act like any other dog. No cats please.

LAM LAM

SPONSORED BY Rick & Mary Ferguson

LAM LAM - Poodle/Schnauzer Mix

Birthday:  25 May 2012

This litter was rescued from the Floresville pound.  Lam Lam is the only one left.  He is absolutely precious!  He has been living in a foster home and gets along with kids and other animals.

FIDO

FIDO – Min Pin – Neutered

Birthday:  7 January 2010

Fido seems to like kids, other dogs, and cuddling.  He is not yet house trained but is doing ok and learning.  He is crate trained.  He doesn’t seem to be a digger or a barker.  He doesn’t particularly like cats.  Fido is one very cool dog!

BLAINE
CONDA

LOU

PAP

JACK RUSSELL TERRIER MIXES - Pap, Lou, Conda, Blaine - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  23 December 2011

These little puppies were living outside in a box while their Mom's were kept tied to a chain link fence that was only enclosed on one side!  They were in danger of being taken to ACS so they have found safe shelter here at Las Lomas K9 Rescue.  They are really sweet and growing.  We don't believe they will be more than 15 pounds when full grown.  We have 4 left, all males.  They are all very sweet and friendly and have tails that almost never stop wagging!

EEYORR

EEYORR - Blue Tick Hound - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  11 July 2010

Eeyoor is an awesome dog who gets along with everyone and is house trained.  He rides well in the car, loves to go for walks, and is very gentle and kind.  His only problem is that he can easily clear an 8 foot fence so he needs to be an indoor dog.

BARON

BARON - Doberman

Estimated Date of Birth:  1 January 2010

Baron is a great dog.  We actually witness his "dumping".  I was so mad I told my husband to follow Baron and the car who sped away when he saw us coming.  They pulled in to a driveway and denied dumping the dog but Baron was sitting outside his door with his paw up looking right in the window at this man!  They finally told us that Baron is a fence jumper and that he is mean and aggressive and bites people so they no longer wanted him.  However, none of that is true!  The fence jumping might be true, we have no way of knowing that because our kennels are all covered but Baron is not aggressive at all and has never tried to bite any of us since he has been at our shelter.  He is very loving and gentle and likes to be right next to you.

MAVERICK

MAVERICK - Border Collie/Aussie Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  25 November 2008

Maverick is in need of a new home or a foster home where someone can work with him a little bit to bring him out of his shell.  He is house trained, loves to curl up on the couch with you, go for walks, and ride in the car.  He is a little shy around new people and not recommended around small kids.  If you can help, please let us know!

BEE BEE & LITTLE MAN

BEE BEE AND LITTLE MAN – Purebred Daschunds - Spayed/Neutered

Birthday:  29 July 2005

These 2 dogs belonged to a neighbor who was diagnosed with Dementia and has since passed away.  He has no family who can take them so we are trying to find them a new home where they can stay together.  They are really sweet and very close and cannot be separated.  Their nails have been cut since this picture was taken!  These 2 little dogs have been house dogs their entire life and never allowed to go outside...at all.  That being said, they have quickly learned their boundaries in their new foster home and don't make a mess all over the house.  The know how to use puppy pads and are very content sleeping on the bed with you or just watching tv.

 ELVIS & PRESLEY

ELVIS & PRESLEY - MIX BREED PUPPIES - Neutered

Birthday:  5 May 2011

These two puppies were found in a drainage ditch, scared to death and full of ticks.  It took hours for volunteers to finally catch them after a wild run through the brush, barb wire fences, cactus, and God only know what else!  But thanks to them the puppies are now safe.  They have recovered nicely from their wounds and have really come out of their shell!  They now wag their tails and give you the high 5 wanting to shake your hand.  They are adorable!  They are brothers and have been started on their shots and deworming.

WILSON

MAJOR WILSON - German Shepherd Mix - Neutered

Birthday: 24 December 2009

As a puppy Wilson was found near a stock tank on a dirt road in Wilson County. A sweet lady saw him and brought him to the Wilson County Garden Day where she knew Las Lomas had a booth. Even though the shelter is full, a foster family agreed to keep him until a good home was found. The name Wilson seemed to fit, so that's what he got. He gets along with other dogs & loves children! He is very playful and loves rawhides! Wilson was adopted to a family who loved him dearly. He had begun chasing their livestock and then they fell on economic hard times due to a job loss. They decided to return him. Everyone was heartbroken! Major Wilson is doing great now and waiting for a new family!

TUX

TUX – Pit Mix Male - Neutered

Birthday:  1 November 2010

A few words from the foster Dad!  “Tux is a pit bull mix but we have never had a friendlier, non-aggressive, people oriented dog transition into our pack of 16. No doubt that his first priority is you. We step out the back door and he's the first one to you to get some love. At six to eight months, he will need some work. We haven't had any trouble with him indoors so he's got the idea about doing his jobs outside although I don't leave him unsupervised in the house. Looks like he has all the social skills necessary to mix in with other dogs and he doesn't seem to be particularly jealous of others. “

SISSY

SISSY - Pug/Terrier Mix Female - Spayed

Birthday:  11 August 2010

Sissy is a sweet little spit fire with a protective attitude. She is only about 15 pounds, but  barks like she thinks she's a BIG dog. She loves kids and gets along with other dogs and cats. She is a little shy of men, especially visitors. She will definitely alert you of a strangers presence. She has not been spayed yet and is currently on heartworm prevention. Sissy is a crated dog at night and during feeding. She is house broken using a crate. She loves the protection her crate provides and will go into it willingly. She likes to play outside, but needs to be watched over because of her small size. She has been going through a chewing stage that has been curved by giving her rawhides she devours. She likes cuddling up on a blanket or pillow for a nap, but will sometimes chew the corner of the pillow. She is leashed trained and very sweet puppy perfect for any family

LITTLE MISS

Sponsored by Kathleen Chmura Shaffer

LITTLE MISS - Australian Cattle Dog

Birthday:  27 April 2010

Little Miss is such a sweet and friendly dog despite the rough life she has had already.  She was dumped in the country, has been abused, beat on the head, and shot at.  She has survived it all and is doing well.  She needs a home with lots of TLC to make up for everything she has been through.  Little Miss is a real trooper!  She is strong minded and determined to survive.  She has a heart of gold!  She weighs about 30 pounds and loves to be held and cuddled!  She is really a precious little dog and her pictures just don't do her justice.  She gets along with other dogs but does tend to be an alpha dog when food is involved.

IAA

Sponsored by Annie Sustaita

Iaa… pronounced (ē`βh) - German Shepherd Dog - Spayed

Birthday: 14 July 2009

Iaa is another dog in a line of many that have been rescued from the West side of San Antonio. Over the years Las Lomas has found forever homes for several dogs with this same story. Still, here it is again. Iaa is a German Shepherd Dog mix. She was rescued (9-8-10) after wandering up to a business where an employee saw how friendly she was and contacted the shelter. LUCKILY… one of the foster families had just had a dog adopted the week before (Prancer) and there was an opening. She has been around children over the age 10 and does fine. She is very friendly with people and is already showing loyalty. She is a bit nervous around other dogs so would probably do better in a single dog family. She is an easy walk on a leash. Iaa has not been exposed to cats yet and is being kept in a kennel outside.  She has had her booster shots and needs to be spayed. She has had one liter.

UPDATE: Iaa

Please note Iaa is not shy of other dogs. It took a little while for her foster family to test her temperament. She gets along GREAT with all the dogs in her pack. She is super friendly, loves dinner time and loves to play with her mates! She stays in the yard and is the easiest partner for a walk. She loves being on the leash and does not run ahead. She stays right next to her foster and will pause when a vehicle passes. Iaa is about 40 pounds and has the sweetest personality! She is a great dog and would fit perfectly in a great family!!!

LADYBUG

Sponsored by Laura Voccio

LADYBUG - American Pit Bull Terrier - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  19 October  2005

Hi there!  My name is Ms. Lady and I am a pit bull. I was found wandering the streets and almost starved to death.  I was rescued and am now healthy and looking for a special someone to love.  I am very affectionate and love to exercise, play with tennis balls and cool off in water.  I am not aggressive during feeding time, but do hide treats for late night snacks.  I need a home with a 6 foot fence because I climb.  I am submissive, but get along great with other dogs.  I also like cats and kids.  I need lots of loving, attention, and a human who is willing to teach me, because I am very smart!  I have already learned to sit and can’t wait to learn more!!!

Update: Ladybug

A wonderful family adopted Ladybug but had to return her. They live in an apartment and truly believed they could spend enough time with her getting her the exercise and outside time she needed. The family was heartbroken and had to return her. They just couldn't spend the time with her she needs. Although we advised putting crating her because she is crate trained, they didn't want to confine her. Ladybug is back with her foster family and although she has had visits from her former family, she misses them so much! She knows what it's like to have a home and people who love and care about her and she doesn't have the same thing with her foster family who she shares with 6 other dogs. We have given her another chance. Are you willing to do the same?

BLANCA

CINDY

DOTTIE

MIKEY

ADOPTED!

DOTTIE, BLANCA, & CINDY - BOXER/LAB PUPPIES - SPAYED

Birthday:  23 January 2010

These precious babies are like so many others; they were left in a box at the doorstep of a vet clinic.  This happens all too often!  Please be responsible and spay and neuter your pets.  Shelters are full, veterinarians can't take care of all the dogs dumped on them, and there are not enough homes to go around for all the unwanted animals.  Unless a home was found for these adorable puppies, sadly they would have been killed along with hundreds of others that are killed each and every day because nobody wants them.

Fortunately, for this lucky group of puppies, a network of several people worked together to get them safely transported to a foster family.

They are about 7 weeks old.  They have been started on their shots and have been dewormed. They are safe for now but need a permanent family that will grow with them, love them and take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Are you that person???

UPDATE ON BLANCA

Sara Blanca is just as sweet & playful as her litter mates. They all love big rawhides and even sticks of wood. They are inside/outside dogs and crate trained at night. They need a dependable family they can trust not to return them to the shelter's foster home family the moment things get tough.

They have not experienced the harsh life of a stray on the streets, but they do know what it is like to go from home to home to home with no one to love or trust. Let's find homes for these adolescent dogs while they're still young enough to easily train. Please don't keep these dogs from knowing what it feels like to be part of a family.

UPDATE ON CINDY

Cindy has grown a lot to reach her "near" adult size. Her personality and shape have developed into the dog she is meant to be. She does not resemble the Boxer as first instructed, instead Cindy along with her littermates have grown to resemble smaller yellow Labrador mixes approximately 27-35 pounds who are active, protective and loves the water. She is alert of strangers, house trained and a great walker.

Cindy has been adopted 2 times in the first 8 months of her life. She was first returned to the foster home at 5 months because a child developed an allergy. She was quickly adopted again this time with Blanca only to be returned at 7 months due to unexpected financial problems.

UPDATE ON DOTTIE:

Dottie is the only sister who has not had any other family besides her foster family. She gets along with other dogs and loves to be petted. She is the smallest of the three girls at 27 pounds and loves to be rubbed, brushed and scratched. She will roll all over the floor and is a hoot to watch. She loves playing in the yard and like her sisters, enjoys the cool comfort of a kiddie pool where she can splash and get wet. She is a fun dog! They all are! They all need homes. These dogs stay with a foster family and are around dogs and children. For every dog adopted, a life is saved as another dog is saved from the streets or spared from lethal injection. Do you have room in your heart to welcome a dog into your family?

PEARL

Sponsored by Deborah & Michael Hawkins

PEARL - Shepherd/Catahoula Mix - Spayed

Birthday:  12 February 2005

Pearl is Minnie's sister and was just recently returned to the shelter after being in a great home for 4 1/2 years.  She is going through an adjustment period right now and needs someone to love.  She was returned because she became animal aggressive and even though her family is heart broken and misses her terribly, they couldn't trust her with their other pets. They felt the only recourse they had was to return her to the shelter in hopes she would find another wonderful home where she could be loved.  Pearl needs to be in a home where she is the only animal.  She is completely house trained and loves to sleep near her family.

DIXIE

DIXIE – Yellow Lab Mix - Spayed

Birthday: 20 February 2009

Dixie was dropped off in a La Vernia neighborhood and was wandering from house to house scavenging for food.  She is very sweet and friendly and has a gentle nature.  She is an escape artist though and will go to great lengths to be near you!   She needs to be an inside dog with her time outside closely supervised.  A 6 foot privacy fence would be best for this sweet girl so she isn't able to climb the fence and run off!  She has had a rough life on the streets and really wants a family to love!  Someone who will love her back and keep her safe at home!

BURLESQUE

Sponsored by Linnell Sloan

BURLESQUE – Black Mouth Curr Mix - Spayed

Birthday:  5 August 2007

Burlesque was found wandering on South Zarzamora near 410. Apparently she had been tied up with a leash and had chewed through it.  She was found on February 5th.  She was a little thin and very hungry. It was raining and she kept trying to get in the vehicles of the customers at work.  She is so friendly and super sweet!  She doesn't like cats but she does like kids.  If anyone wants to claim her, please bring the leash she was tied up with as proof she belongs to you.  If she is not claimed, she will be up for adoption.

She was named Burlesque because she likes to dance.  She jumps up on her hind feet and dances around.  She is full grown and only weighs about 25 pounds!

TARGET

TARGET - Lab/Dane Mix - Neutered

Birthday:  13 January 2008

Target weighs over 75 pounds.  He is a great dog.  He gets along well with others and is house trained.  He loves people and wants a family of his own!  He came from a litter of 7 and is the only one still looking for that special forever home.

BUSTER

CHESTER – Border Collie Mix - Neutered

Birthday:  1 November 2007

This group of dogs was found half starved and thirsty over the summer with several others who have already been placed. They were being fed by locals in the Homestead Place neighborhood. Several people were making daily treks through the brush to make sure these dogs were at least being fed.

We only have Chester left for adoption:

Chester is a little bit bigger and weighs 30 pounds. He also has some missing and broken teeth. Chester is very outgoing and not shy at all! He loves to run around till he gets your attention. Then he will roll over exposing his belly for a good rubbing.

Chester is good with children and other dogs. The vet said their broken teeth were probably caused from eating rocks, something that happens when dogs go hungry, but they will never go hungry again.

HOPPY

HOPPY – Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix - Neutered

Birthday:  1 May 2008

This is Hoppy!  He got that name because he was hopping around from a leg injury when he was rescued, but also because Hoppy kinda sounds like Happy and that is what this dog is - HAPPY!  Hoppy is an amazingly friendly and sweet dog.  He loves to lay his head in your lap and take car rides.  He gets along with other dogs and doesn't bother cats.  He is also GREAT with children!  Hoppy has nerve damage from an injury and that's why his leg is in a cast right now, but the vet said he will be just fine.  He used his leg before, but his foot turned backward, so we decided to have it fixed.  It's about quality of life and making things easier for a well deserving dog.  Hoppy has been neutered, is current on all of his shots including rabies and he is heart worm free!  All he is waiting for now is for you to make him part of your life!  I guarantee he will make you as hoppy, I mean happy as can be!

STRIKER

STRIKER - Rat Terrier Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  6 September 2006

Striker was one of 14 dogs living in an old trailer house that had been vacated when the owner was taken away by social services.  He was never aloud outside and was never socialized.  He isn't an aggressive dog, but he is a little scared of strangers, although very curious and wanting attention.  Given a little time and TLC he comes around and will sit on your lap!  He was given the name striker because he was bit by a rattlesnake just days before we were able to catch him.  Striker only weighs 10 pounds and is full grown.  He has really come a long way since he has been at the shelter.  He is full of love and really wants to be held!

KAMI

Estimated Date of Birth:  14 February 2009

Kami is a real sweet little dog who was dumped at the pound.  She was scheduled to be put down when we rescued her from death row.  She gets along well with other dogs and loves people.  She was flea and tick infested when she first came to our shelter but today she is a beautiful dog with a very kind spirit.  She loves to eat!

ANDRE

ANDRE – Black Lab Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  22 March 2008

Andre was left behind in the country with 14 other dogs when his caretaker was taken away by social services.  He remained loyal and guarded the place, barking at any strangers who came along.  It took us 2 hours to catch him because he was determined to stay and defend his masters’ home but we couldn’t leave him there in the heat with no food or water.  He is one of the gentlest dogs we have ever seen.  He is very quiet, hardly ever barks now that he feels safe, and is very calm and laid back.

SPOTACUS

SPOTACUS - Pit Bull Terrier – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  21 January 2007

Spotacus was found lost and hungry as he wandered up to a business.  The workers were amazed at how friendly and sweet this dog was so they started feeding him.  He was brought to the shelter instead of going to his death because of his unusually sweet personality.  He has received all his shots and been neutered.  He is heartworm negative.  Even the vet was surprised at how docile and friendly he was.  Spotacus is good around children ages 5 and up, but hasn't been tested with children younger than that.  He is well behaved and still has lots of his friendly, outgoing, puppy personality.  It is unknown how he would do around cats. If you would like to make him part of your family, please contact us.

RICO

JINGLES

Sponsored by Sarah Duncan

RICO & JINGLES – Leopard Catahoulas - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  1 January 2009

These two brothers were rescued from the Pleasanton pound.  They were scheduled to be euthanized the day the owner of our sister shelter stopped in to see what was there.  She convinced them to wait a couple of days until she could find space for them but she didn’t have long because the pound fills up fast and they were killing animals twice a week over there.  These two boys are very lucky to have made it out of there alive.  They are both really sweet and friendly.  They are a little shy and unsure around strangers, but given time they warm up to be really nice and affectionate dogs.  They weighed approximately 20 pounds when they first came here in April 2009.  Today, Rico weighs 65 pounds and Jingles weighs 75 pounds.

JAKE

JAKE - Yellow Lab Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  12 August 2008

Jake is a great dog!  He is friendly, playful, and very sweet.  He gets along well with other dogs and is great with children.  He was born at Tess' K9 Rescue and was adopted at a very early age but when we found out the adoptive family kept him outside all the time and lied to us about not having a fenced in yard for him we went to retrieve him.  It was a dangerous situation for him to be living in with no boundaries in the country where people sadly shoot animals all the time.  Jake is very affectionate and loves to be around people.

RED & RUSTY

Email address:  Kim@dogsrus.org

Please help us save Red & Rusty!

RED & RUSTY- Lab Mixes - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:

Red:  11 February 2006

Rusty:  11 February 2007

These two sweet dogs, father and son, Rusty and Red were drive from Houston to San Antonio 4 months after their dad died and left them in his backyard alone.  They are now at their new foster and although a little scared after losing their dad and the only home they know, they seemed very happy to get some long deserved attention.  Unfortunately, shortly after they arrived, Red stopped eating and his breathing became labored.  His foster took him straight to the vet. (The dogs haven't barked once since they have been at their new home but when Red was taken to the vet's office, his little boy Rusty howled for him for the first time...almost as if he knew).  We were told Red has a partially collapsed lung and pneumonia, in the later stages of heartworm infestation and the poor oxygen levels in his blood is causing lethargy.  He also has significant water on his heart and lungs, his white blood cell count is over 39,000 and he has whip worms and hook worms.  This poor dog is only estimated at 2-3 yrs old, and his young age is the only reason the vet is even giving him a 30% chance of surviving.  We were all trying to figure out what to do but decided that because Red is still fighting, we are going to fight with him!  Afterall, we are a no kill shelter and he deserves a second chance!  The next day it was discovered that Rusty is suffering from whipworms, hookworms, and heartworms as well.  He doesn’t have all the other problems Red has but we caught him early enough we are hoping his condition won’t progress as bad as Red’s.  As you can imagine their vet bills are going to be phenomenal.  We are writing this plea to hopefully get some donations to help fight for Red’s young life and to help Rusty as well.  These dogs have been owned by no one after their dad passed away but being fostered by a very nice woman who has several other dogs and can not afford to take this on herself.  The shelter is struggling with rising costs of vet care not to mention monthly heartworm prevention expense alone exceeds well over $500 a month.  We are asking if you can donate even $5 or $10 dollars, then pass this along to others who may help, this would mean the world to us and to Red and Rusty.  They deserve to be together and healthy after all they have lost.  Any tax deductible donations can be made through the Pay Pal link at this web site:  www.dogsrus.org using the email address Kim@dogsrus.org or they can be mailed to Las Lomas K9 Rescue, PO Box 494, Floresville TX  78114.  Thank you for any help you can give us!

UPDATE!!!

Red & Rusty are doing GREAT! Both dogs are thriving and have finally begun to enjoy life. They spend their days in the care of their foster family.

Rusty has now been neutered and is doing wonderful! He has become a joyful and playful dog. He likes to play catch although he hasn't quite mastered the art of returning with the toy. Rusty doesn't care too much about going in the house. He prefers to stay outside.

Red is doing exceptionally well! He no longer faces impending doom, but instead has made a wonderful recovery! He is happy and playful and loves to have his back scratched. He is a good inside dog, but spends most of his days outside.
These wonderful dogs are still missing one thing, a family of their own. They would love to find a home where they can stay together.

Red & Rusty get along great with other dogs and with children but no cats for them!

Thank you to everyone for your support and prayers!  It all paid off!

KENNEDY

KENNEDY – Shepherd Mix Male - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  7 April 2008

Kennedy is a great little puppy!  He gets along really well with other dogs, is very people oriented, and even comes when you whistle!  He is living indoors in a foster home and learning house training.  He is a calm and relaxed puppy who will make a great friend for someone! He isn't going to be a very big dog so we are not sure what he is mixed with but anyone who meets this sweet little guy will just fall in love!

BAILEY

BAILEY - American Staffordshire Terrier Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth: 18 November 2006

My family vowed to take me with them if they ever moved because I was part of the family, protected the kids from harm and played with them, but when it came time for them to move, they didn't keep their word and left me behind!! I have been in two different fosters homes now and it isn't the same. I am really sad and lonely and missing my family so much. I had two small children for my friends and I loved them a lot. I wonder if they will remember me when they grow up, and wonder what happened to me? I will never forget about them but it would help me to heal if I could find another family to love. The foster family I have been with for the last 6 months are doing their best, but I really need a home of my own.

I am very strong, but very sweet. I prefer to be the only pet in the home because I want all of the attention. I really miss sleeping with the kids at night and playing with them during the day. I am a high energy dog that will need daily exercise such as walks. I would be a great companion for a walker or a jogger. I would also be a good candidate for someone interested in agility training because I am very intelligent. I am also well behaved in the house.

I have been neutered, am current on all shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.

EMERALD

EMERALD - Mix Breed - Spayed

Date of Birth:  22 November 2007

Emerald is an adorable mixed breed girl with stunning eyes. She is a medium size, only weighs about 47 pounds. She was the runt of the litter.

Emerald was adopted and returned because it  was discovered that she was born with a genetic defect.  She has no ball and sockets in her hips.  She went to our vet for an  evaluation.  She is in no pain and plays and runs like a normal dog.  She may, at some point in her life, require a surgery, but for now, it was recommended to wait.   Some dogs who are born with this condition live their entire lives pain free without surgery.  She isn't on any medication and is a happy go lucky dog.

She lived indoors in her first home so she has had some house training. She loves to play and is a very sweet and gentle dog.

JUNE

Sponsored by Carolyn Word

of Burnet TX

JUNE – Terrier Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  24 December 2002

June is a wonderful little Terrier-mix dog.  She has a very sweet disposition. Although she is playful, she is also very well mannered and well behaved.  She is not a jumper or a barker and she would make a great little house companion!

June enjoys her doggy roommate at the shelter and they have fun barking at the horses when they get too rowdy, but other than that, she's mostly a calm, quiet girl.  We don't know how June would be with small kids or cats or if she was ever housetrained but she did get adopted once and was an inside dog.  We were told she did great in the house.  She was returned because the dog who was living there previously was not giving in to having a sister in the house.

June is a delightful little girl and just the right size to fit into any family.  She would probably do okay as an apartment dog too as she doesn't require much exercise.

CHE Z

CHE Z - Lab/Red Bone Coonhound - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  27 January 2008

What kind of dog am I?  A loving, sweet, and gentle kind!  I was dumped off at a McDonalds on Loop 1604.  I was there for a month and one day a bunch of kids were throwing rocks and things at me.  That made me feel really sad.  But a nice man who was eating a cheeseburger witnessed it all and was able to save me before I got hurt.  The tech at the vet named me Che Z since my savior was eating a cheeseburger when he saw me!  He said he just couldn't resist that look in my eyes.  He took me to Las Lomas K9 Rescue who graciously made room for me and they are taking great care of me until I can find a home as kind and loving as me :)

BRIANA

BRIANA – German Shepherd Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  10 October 2005

SPECIAL NEEDS.  Briana came to the shelter as a puppy with her siblings, many of whom still reside at the shelter.  This litter was really sick when they came to the shelter and it took months to get them healthy and ready to go to their new homes.  By this time, they had not been socialized or exposed beyond their "sheltered" life.  While several of Briana’s siblings are shy, but curious about meeting new people, Briana is exceptionally shy and unsure.

She loves and trusts her caretaker, but she has "special needs" that she will require a special home with a patient adult(s) willing to work with her and slowly expose her to new things.  She is shy by nature and not used to all the activity and stimulus of the big, outside world she has never known.

Briana relies on and seeks comfort in her sister and roommate, Krystal.  Briana is a beautiful girl whose father is a purebred German Shepherd.  She is good with other dogs but has never been around cats or children.

Briana will prefer a quieter type of household without a lot of traffic, and a small circle of friends.  She needs a home with someone experienced with dog behavior who understands, accepts, and honors her limitations.  A patient person with a soft tone and touch, who doesn't expect a lot out of her, but wants an easy companion to hang out with at home, will be the best match for bringing out all Briana can offer.  She would probably be easy to crate train and find comfort in a crate as being her safe place.

STANLEY

STANLEY - Lab Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  25 January 2007

I am Stanley and I was born at the vet clinic with my siblings after our Mom (Pumpkin) was dumped there before giving birth.  I have had a rough life, I am a parvo survivor though and very thankful to the shelter for saving my life!   Prior to coming to the shelter, I didn't have any contact with humans.  All I know is my caregiver, so I am a little shy when I first meet you.  If you are willing to work me with, and help me overcome my shyness, I could be a great friend to you.

ANGEL

ANGEL – Cattle Dog Mix Female - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  27 November 2003

I am Angel, a predominately black heeler mix female who is friendly, energetic, and playful.  I get along great with other dogs and love to play but I do tend to take their food so need to be fed separately.  I am  wonderful with kids although I haven't been around them since coming to the shelter.  I am very smart and a fast learner.  I am highly intelligent; as a baby, I was paper trained in just 2 days!  I am the type of dog who bonds really fast to my human companions and will follow you anywhere for attention.  I am extremely sweet and love to give kisses.  I grew up around cats and livestock but have probably forgotten what that was all about so I would need some time to get reacquainted.

LEO

LEO - Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  19 December 2001

Hi, my name is Leo and I am a unique dog.  I do extremely well with cats but not so well with other dogs!!  I am choosy about my friends and do enjoy playing with others at times but I normally prefer to be left alone.  I have been completely house trained and will stay inside all day without chewing on a thing I shouldn't be chewing on!  I love to go for walks on the beach, hiking in the parks, and just plain out lounging around.  I am  great in the car and have had some basic obedience training.  I am very food aggressive though, with both animals and humans. As long as you don't come near my food when I am eating, I am fine, but if you stick your hands in my food bowl, or try to pet me while I am eating, I will definitely ask you to back off!

I need an experienced dog handler who understands mood swings and is willing to learn my ways and give me a chance in life.  I can be very sweet and I love to give hugs and kisses, but on my terms only.  I can be quite moody but would be a great friend to someone willing to help me.  I would also make a great guard dog.

LITTLE ANGEL

LITTLE ANGEL – German Shepherd/Yellow Lab Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  12 October 2005

ANGEL SMILES 4 U.  Angel is a very sweet, pretty golden/red coated girl.  She was a little shy not having been exposed to much outside of her shelter upbringing, but she has warmed up quickly and has a nice, easy-going, friendly temperament.

She really seems to love her sister and roommate, Hailey, and would enjoy a home with another doggy companion.  Angel is a darling girl just waiting for that kind-hearted person to come along and make her a part of a home and family.  She is very excited to get out and meet new people and can be hard to handle on a leash until she calms down but we believe this would all change in a home environment.

Angel is ready to learn about living life as a family, house-pet, and in return, you will have a sweet Angel to watch over you.

HAILEY

HAILEY – German Shepherd/Yellow Lab Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  12 October 2005

HAILEY has such a cute face with her expressive eyes and wrinkled brow.  She is really a beauty with her regal red, sleek coat too.  Her dad is a purebred German Shepherd.  Hailey enjoys spending time with her sister and roommate, Angel.  She's pretty calm natured, and they like laying close together and watching the birds fly by.

As comfortable as lounging around on the doghouse is, Hailey would really like to have a chance at becoming an integral family member in a real house and home.  She is a little timid not having been exposed to much outside of her shelter upbringing, but she warms up quickly and has a friendly temperament.  She would probably enjoy a home where she could have another doggy friend too.

DAISY & BAILEY

DAISY & BAILEY – Lab Mixes – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  1 June 2005

Hello, we are Daisy & Bailey and are identical twins!  It's pretty hard to tell us apart until you get to know us.  We are really sweet and loving and will be great dogs for kids or anyone who is willing to love us back!

The family who owned the property where we were dumped in the country was kind enough to take us in and care for us until we were old enough to start wandering off.  Unfortunately, they didn't have a fence to keep us safe at home so that's when they asked the shelter to take us in.

We are both nice, laid back, and easy to please, all we want is a little love and TLC!

HOLLEY – Pit Mix – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  7 August 2004

HOLLEY SWEETNESS!  Holley is sweet, submissive, and friendly.  She is a kind-hearted, tail wagging girl who gets along great with other dogs and people. She just loves everyone.  She really needs to be an indoor dog because she can climb over a 6 foot fence with ease and she has been known in thunderstorms to chew through her metal gate and escape.  She has very strong teeth!  She climbs up on top of the shelter and runs back and forth driving the other dogs nuts!   When inside, she is settled and relaxed and would be a great friend to anyone.

Hi!  I am Twinkie.  I was adopted as a puppy and returned a year later when I grew bigger than my owners anticipated.  Nobody really knows what breed I am but I am a beautiful brindle and have a soft, shiny coat.

I get along well with other dogs but still have a lot of puppy in me.  I love to lay on the floor and have my belly rubbed!  I love people but am very protective of my domain and will alert when strangers approach.

PUMPKIN

PUMPKIN – Doberman/Beagle Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  25 March 2006

Pumpkin is such a pretty girl with her deep, rich, tri-colored coat and beautiful round, expressive "Beagle" looking eyes.  We think Pumpkin is a Doberman mixed possibly with some type of hound.  Pumpkin is a quiet, mostly laid back kind of dog.

Pumpkin and her sister, Peanut, were turned into the vet's office to be euthanized when they were just youngsters because they had gotten pregnant when their owners did not spay them nor want them anymore.

No telling what their life was like back then, but it must not have been "all that," and Pumpkin doesn't like to talk about it!  Pumpkin is very shy and nervous about new things and people.

Pumpkin is very sweet and trusting with her caretaker, but she retreats to the safety of her dog house when visitors approach.  This pretty girl would like to have a loving, forever home with a family of her own, something she's never had.  But, she likes a small circle of friends and will need a quiet, low-traffic, adults-only home.  A special, patient, kind-hearted person(s) willing to go slow and provide encouragement to build her self-esteem, confidence, and trust will bring out the best in Pumpkin.

Pumpkin should be easy to crate-train and will likely find comfort in her crate as being her safe place.

Peanut is a pretty black and tan Doberman mix who enjoys spending time with her sister, Pumpkin, and talking in her special way with her people friends.  Peanut is a quiet, mostly laid back kind of dog.

Peanut and her sister, Pumpkin, were turned into the vet's office to be euthanized when they were just youngsters because they had gotten pregnant when their owners did not spay them nor want them anymore.

No telling what their life was like back then, but it must not have been "all that," as they don't like to talk about it!  Peanut is very sweet and trusting with her caretaker, but quite shy about new things and people.

Peanut is a sweet dog who would like to have a real loving, forever home with a family of her own, something she's never had.  But, she likes a small circle of friends and will need a quiet, low-traffic, adults-only home.  A patient, kind-hearted person(s) willing to go slow and provide encouragement to build her self-esteem, confidence, and trust will bring out the best in Peanut.

DIAMOND & PEPPER

DIAMOND & PEPPER – Black Lab Mixes - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth: 10 July 2001

Hi, my name is Diamond.  I am energetic and have a very sweet personality.  My beautiful black coat shines in the sun just like a Diamond!  I love to play with my sister Pepper.  I enjoy the water and ride well in the car.  My tail goes a mile a minute when I see our shelter manager come home and I love greeting visitors.  I enjoy the outdoors on nice days.

My sister Pepper is a carbon copy of me.  We are not aggressive by any means.  We are loving and fun dogs who also happen to be sisters who really enjoy each others company and are looking for a home where we can stay together.  You see, all of our siblings were adopted when we were just 6 weeks old and my sister and I have been together ever since so we have become inseparable.

We have lots of love to offer to anyone willing to make us part of their family!

SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE – Lab/Spaniel Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  27 June 2004

Sunshine is a really sweet dog and has lots of love to give.  She is a little shy when she first meets you but it doesn't take long for her to become friends.  She loves being around other dogs and has lots of fun playing and running around the yard.

She isn’t a very big dog but as you can tell she has a great appetite!  She is quiet, laid back, and pretty mellow.  She is actually a sister to Ebony but she doesn’t have her underbite!

Sunshine would make a great house companion for someone with a quieter life style!

KAITLAN

KAITLAN – Lab Mix – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  29 August 2005

Kaitlin is a very sweet dog who was thrown out with the trash on Loop 1604 near Floresville, Texas.  She was seen sitting in the same place for 3 days waiting on that horrible person who dumped her to come back for her.  She was a little nervous when we first picked her up but now she is very happy and thankful for food, water, and any attention we can give her.  She is a medium size dog with a huge heart!!

Kaitlan gets along well with the dogs at the shelter.  She is so gentle, and easy going without one mean bone in her entire body! She amazes me how loving and gentle she is with everyone!

BONNIE

Sponsored by Rose Mary Scott

BONNIE – Black Lab Mix – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  31 October 1999

Don't let my gray hair fool you. I still have a lot of life and love to give but without being high maintenance. True, I'm not the party girl I once was, but that's a good thing, because now I'm mature and settled. I like the occasional romp in the sun, but I'm mostly looking for some laid back Golden years and human companionship. I get along with other dogs too.

Right now, I live in an outdoor shelter but would so love to be curled up in the house by your side. We could take occasional walks, and maybe share a snack every now and then. I'm a nice, quiet girl, but I am loyal and would let you know when a stranger is lurking around outside.

If you have a place in your heart and home for me, I sure would love to share my sweet smile with you and hang out in the a/c chatting about the wild ways of our youth.

TREVOR

TREVOR – Border Colllie/Lab – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  9 August 2003

TREVOR is a lively, bubbly, eager boy looking for an active home. He is so handsome with his unique gray/blue coat.

Trevor has a very friendly, life-loving temperament and always greets you with a smile.  He enjoys sitting on people's laps.  Anything for a little attention!  He also enjoys other dogs.

Trevor is outgoing and probably up for most any adventure.  He is intelligent and waiting eagerly to show someone how quickly he can learn, but he hasn't had the opportunity yet, so he's hoping to find a home with people who will take him to obedience training and work with him on house training and manners.  Trevor would benefit from a harness because he does not like walking on a leash, at all!

EBONY

EBONY – Lab/Terrier Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  27 June 2004

No one really knows what breed mixes I am, but I have one of those lovable special faces and an under bite that makes me look like I'm smiling at you all the time.

I have a smiley, let's-have-some-fun personality too.  I am sweet and friendly and love to play with other dogs.  I've mostly grown up in the shelter environment, but I would be excited to find a family who could show me some fun new stuff!  I'm eager to learn and love being around people and other dogs.

If you take the time to show me about home manners and family life, I'll shower you with love and humor you with my many silly facial expressions.

TIGER

TIGER – Shepherd/Lab Mix – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  23 November 2005

TIGER is like Tony the Tiger used to say, "Greeeaat for the heart!"  He is a very smiley and wiggly fellow.  He is one compact muscle - he doesn't wag is tail, he wags his whole body!  You know what they say about those waggers.  They all have happy endings, and we are hopeful Tiger will too!

Tiger loves other dogs, children, and is an awesome people dog.  He loves to run and roughhouse with his dog friends, but he also has a softer side too.

He is a great size - not too small, not too big - just right, and he will make a great family companion whether at the lake or snoozing on the porch or sofa with this pals.

BONNY

BONNY – German Shorthaired Pointer – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  30 January 2004

Bonny is a beautiful German Short Hair Pointer mix, even though everyone says she looks like a Lab!  Bonny is a very active, energetic, lively dog who will require plenty of exercise.  She is also very friendly and gets along well with everyone.

Bonny has the agility and ability to be a rowdy girl, however, I can also see her curled up in front of a fireplace.  She is not housebroken to our knowledge, but has great potential of being an inside/outside dog as she is a quick study who is highly trainable and eager to learn.

Bonny's color makes her unique to look at and her bubbly personality makes her easy to love. She is great with kids of all ages, good w/ other dogs, and cats unknown.

ROWDY

ROWDY – Boxer Mix – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  20 January 2006

Rowdy was surrendered to the shelter when his owner moved and could not take him.  He was an indoor/outdoor dog, good with other dogs, but had not been around cats.

Rowdy lives up to his name and has an active, party boy personality.  He's up for some good adventures, if you are!  Rowdy knows some basic commands such as "sit."  He loves playing in the water and being sprayed with the water hose.

Rowdy will require an active family who can meet his exercise needs and a secure fenced yard.

SAMANTHA

SAMANTHA – Catahoula/Aussie Mix – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  10 February 2000

Samantha is a cute little "granny" looking dog.  She's had a hard life at the hands of humans, and while she's not really a "scaredy cat," she just has to make sure she can trust you before offering up all the love she has to give.  You can see by her photos that she is a sweet soul with a big heart, though, and would be a loyal friend.

Samantha gets along with certain dogs but she's too sophisticated for a lot of high action, roughhousing, and drama.  A quiet, adults only, home with kind, patient companionship is all she asks for, and she will keep you company in return.

GURLIE

GURLIE – American Staffordshire Terrier/Pitbull Terrier – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  10 August 2006

Gurlie is a great dog who loves people!  She is house trained, rides well in the car, loves to go for walks, and is happy just being around people!  She is gentle, obedient, well behaved and an all around love bug.

Her only downfall is that she does not like other animals and needs a home where she can be the only dog and not have to share her attention with anyone but you.  She will do fine with older children and will need a secure fenced yard and responsible guardian.

HOLLIE

HOLLIE – Flat Coated Retriever/Lab Mix – Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  30 September 1999

HOLLIE IS WONDERFUL. We don't know for sure what breed mixes Hollie is, but she has a longish, full black coat and a very sweet, bubbly, kind, people loving personality like that of a Retriever or Aussie. She's quiet, laid back, easy going, and most content when hanging out with her people doing whatever they're doing. She loves her people!

Hollie gets along great with other dogs and enjoys their company. She has also lived with a cat in the past, so she'd probably be fine with a dog savvy cat.

When left alone in the yard for extended periods in the past, Hollie has been known to dig out in search of companionship and her people, so she may enjoy the company of another dog in her new home and should be supervised initially.

Hollie is housetrained, well mannered, and will make an easy, loving addition to most any family.

SAWYER

SAWYER - Hound/Heeler Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  28 November 2004

Sawyer is a smart, very active dog who likes to play fetch, although he forgets the "return" part!  He's the type that will do best in an active home with someone who wants a jogging partner or to do agility, frisbee, or some type of doggy sport to keep this active guy's mind and body busy.

Sawyer is a very confident, outgoing dog who will do best with a strong leader willing to work on his obedience training and focus.

Sawyer gets along with the other dogs in his kennel but he can be a little food aggressive when sharing with others.

MINNIE

MINNIE - German Shepherd/Catahoula Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  12 February 2005

Minnie was part of a litter that came to the shelter as pups.  She is a very pretty dog whose mother was a purebred German Shepherd Dog, and we believe the father was a Catahoula.

Minnie enjoys the companionship of other dogs, is a little shy, but friendly with people, and has a pleasant personality.  She would like to get out of the shelter environment and into a home with people who have time and interest in making her a valued family member.

She will need a fenced yard, house training, and basic obedience training as she has been housed in an outdoor shelter environment to date.

MAX

MAX – Lab Mix – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  1 June 2005

Max is a Lab mix boy who was found dumped in the country with his littermates when they were pups.  He's grown up in an outdoor shelter/kennel environment, but he has a nice, gentle personality and should be able to integrate into a family home if someone is willing to work with him and give him a chance.  He was born with a defect in his back legs that makes him bow legged, he got that from his Mom, but the vet says it doesn't cause him any pain and surgery isn't something they recommend.

Max enjoys other dogs and likes to play with his roommate Bonnie, an older Lab mix. So far, Max has loved everyone he's ever met.

ROCCO

ROCCO – Lab Mix – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  30 September 2003

Rocco is ready to roll! He has the cutest facial expressions with his intent round eyes! Rocco loves to dunk his whole muzzle in his water bucket and would probably love a good swim!

Rocco was a backyard dog when he was left behind by his sorry people who moved and left him in his yard with 4 ft. weeds and no food or water. Despite this, Rocco is still a fun-loving, Lab boy!

Rocco is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. He is easy going and submissive. Rocco still lives outdoors in the shelter environment but would SO love to have a true forever family to call his own!

He likes to talk to you when asking for attention. He would make a very loyal companion and watch dog. This is a nice and handsome boy who just needs someone to spend some time with him fine-tuning the skills he never had a chance to work on. He is shy and sometimes fearful of strangers so he needs someone willing to spend some time with him, once you gain his trust, he is very loving and loyal.

LILY

Sponsored by Tasha Castillo

of San Antonio TX

LILY - Pit Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  19 June 2004

Lily is a sweet little house dog who absolutely loves and adores people!  She is good with children too.  She loves to have her tummy rubbed, sleep on the bed with you, and curl up on the couch to watch TV.  She loves playing with other dogs; however, she tends to be a dominate alpha female and can sometimes play very rough so her time spent with other dogs would have to be very closely supervised.  She would do better in a home where she could have all the love and attention!

INDIGO

INDIGO - Doberman Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  25 January 2007

Indigo came to the shelter as a puppy with his littermates and mother.  He is a little timid meeting new people, yet very anxious, curious, and eager to join in the fun. He likes to talk to people in his special way to get attention and can be quite the character.

Indigo is an energetic, playful dog who would like a home with another doggy companion. He's grown up around other dogs, but since he has grown up in the shelter, he hasn't had the opportunity to explore all the things the big, outside world has to offer. Thus, he will require a home willing to work with him and show him the ropes of learning new things, home manners, training, and socializing.

Indigo loves attention and loves to shake hands!

COWGIRL

COWGIRL - Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  11 November 2003

Hi there!  I am Cowgirl, a very sweet and loving dog who enjoys being around people and other dogs.  I am very gentle and easy going; however, I am quite the escape artist and really need to be an indoor dog with my time outside very closely supervised!  I need a high privacy fence for closely supervised activities outdoors and when I am not behind a high privacy fence I need to be kept on a leash.  I am also terrified of loud noises such as thunderstorms, fireworks, and gun shots.  I tend to bolt when I get scared and don't easily come back when called.  I am well worth the effort though because if you love me and keep me safe I will be a loyal and devoted friend for life!  I am crate trained.

STORMY

STORMY – Black Lab Mix Female - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  29 January 2002

I am Stormy. I am active and playful, yet a gentle dog. I have lived indoors before but am currently living in the shelter.  I enjoy playing with other dogs and miss my family and the indoor life of watching TV and hanging out with my friends.

I have had some basic obedience training and really enjoyed going to the classes. I wouldn’t be hard to housetrain since I have lived indoors before. I am an intelligent girl and a fast learner.

I'm a cute, little bit short and stout girl, so I'm more of a medium size for my breed.  Do you have a place in your heart and home for me, so I can live the family life I was accustomed to?

BILLY

BILLY - Hound Mix Male - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  29 March 2004

Billy is a Hound mix with an adorable bobtail and freckled legs.  He is smart, attentive, energetic, athletic, agile, treat motivated, and eager to learn! He had no problem "bobbing for a treat" during his "photo shoot." Check out his video!   Click here!

Billy seems like he would be an excellent candidate for agility or another doggy sport. He would also be a good jogging partner.

We think Billy was an outdoor, free roaming dog previously, so he will need some fine tuning in the home manners department. Billy is a sweet and eager boy who is anxious to show you how much he can learn! He is probably too exuberant at this time for young children and cats. He gets along with the other dogs in his foster home.

BJ

BJ – Pointer Mix Male – Neutered

Birthday:  2 April 2011

BJ is a sweetheart.  He's got the most beautiful golden colored eyes and appears to have a lot of bird dog in him.  He seems to get along well with other pets.  He walks pretty well on a leash although we are still working on it.  He came to his foster home a few weeks ago, was covered in fleas and sores from scratching.  He has been vet checked, his sores were treated and he is now thriving!

SKEETER

JO JO

SKEETER & JO JO – Black Mouth Cur – Spayed/Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  29 August 2008

These dogs have excellent temperaments and would make good family pets.  They are also good hunting and herding dogs; however, they need a secure yard to keep them safe from running off.  They are very submissive and non-aggressive with other dogs and would be great companions!
