Momma was a street dog with multiple boyfriends.  Sadly, she was killed on the highway.  The puppies were barely old enough to eat and left to fend for themselves.  They are all doing well and looking for their forever homes.

These precious babies are like so many others; they were left in a box at the doorstep of a vet clinic.  This happens all too often!  Please be responsible and spay and neuter your pets.  Shelters are full, veterinarians can't take care of all the dogs dumped on them, and there are not enough homes to go around for all the unwanted animals.  Unless a home was found for these adorable puppies, sadly they would have been killed along with hundreds of others that are killed each and every day because nobody wants them. 

Fortunately, for this lucky group of puppies, a network of several people worked together to get them safely transported to a foster family.

They are about 7 weeks old.  They have been started on their shots and have been dewormed. They are safe for now but need a permanent family that will grow with them, love them and take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Pearl is Minnie's sister and was just recently returned to the shelter after being in a great home for 4 1/2 years.  She is going through an adjustment period right now and needs someone to love.  She was returned because she became animal aggressive and even though her family is heart broken and misses her terribly, they couldn't trust her with their other pets. They felt the only recourse they had was to return her to the shelter in hopes she would find another wonderful home where she could be loved.  Pearl needs to be in a home where she is the only animal.  She is completely house trained and loves to sleep near her family.

Dixie was dropped off in a La Vernia neighborhood and was wandering from house to house scavenging for food.  She is very sweet and friendly and has a gentle nature.  She is an escape artist though and will go to great lengths to be near you!   She needs to be an inside dog with her time outside closely supervised.  A 6 foot privacy fence would be best for this sweet girl so she isn't able to climb the fence and run off!  She has had a rough life on the streets and really wants a family to love!  Someone who will love her back and keep her safe at home!

DAPPER DAN & DANA

Birthday:  14 August 2009

These precious puppies were found in the country by a couple who were horse back riding and passed them by in the middle of nowhere.  Later on when they got home they started worrying the puppies would become coyote bait so they went back looking for them.  Fortunately, they found them and took them home.  They are sweet and playful and need a home of their own!

Dapper Dan is the chocolate male and Dana is the black female.  We are estimating they will be around 40 pounds when full grown.

Burlesque was found wandering on South Zarzamora near 410. Apparently she had been tied up with a leash and had chewed through it.  She was found on February 5th.  She was a little thin and very hungry. It was raining and she kept trying to get in the vehicles of the customers at work.  She is so friendly and super sweet!  She doesn't like cats but she does like kids.  If anyone wants to claim her, please bring the leash she was tied up with as proof she belongs to you.  If she is not claimed, she will be up for adoption.

REMI

REMI – Lab Mix

This is Remi, sounds like Hemi. She was brought to the vet the very day she was found at the doorsteps of a business on busy Hwy 87 in China Grove. The vet said she was very healthy and had probably been recently abandoned. This adorable pup has got a Hemi engine, and is Rarin' to go!

She LOVES to play and gnaw away at the rawhide she was given to practice her chewing. She is a tough competitor at games of tug using a simple tied hand towel. Remi is also going through the "nipping at your toes" stage. It's adorable, but don't say I didn't warn ya'! She is in the early stages of potty training. She splits her time between playing and sleeping. She will play until she wears herself out. Remi has also been known to wear out the 3 older dogs she is currently staying with.

Remi sleeps in a covered crate at night and is doing just fine. She does not quite sleep through the night, but is not very loud either. This precious puppy is in the crucial early development stages of her life. She's been through a lot in the last few days but is now safely under the care and protection of Las Lomas Foster Families.

She needs a person, couple or family who wants to adopt a new baby into their life. They must be willing to keep her through her ENTIRE LIFE, in the same way you would a child! (the cute puppy stage, the memory making adult years and her elderly years.)

Hi, my name is Cassidy.  I am a sweet sweet dog.  I am calm and very quiet, I haven’t barked one time since I was dropped off at the shelter.  However, don't let my age fool you.  I am also very energetic and could probably outrun you!  I do need to be kept on a leash and live inside for my own safety.  I am sad and in mourning because my family has moved to California and I wasn't able to go with them.  I am a digger when left outside in the yard.  I long to be with my family and am heartbroken without my two little girls I lived with for the past 5 years.  I loved them dearly and they loved me too.  They were crying their eyes out when Mom dropped me off at the shelter.  I am so sad and confused and even though they are good to me at the shelter, and this isn’t a bad place to be, I am longing for my home.  I wasn’t cut out for shelter life.  I heard the shelter manager tell my Mom that I wouldn't be easy to find a home for people people don't want older dogs but we need love too.  I have been a loyal and faithful dog all my life, I deserve a chance.  Do you have room in your home and your heart for me?

This group of dogs was found half starved and thirsty over the summer with several others who have already been placed. They were being fed by locals in the Homestead Place neighborhood. Several people were making daily treks through the brush to make sure these dogs were at least being fed.

Mama Molly was the only adult female in the group. Her puppies have all been placed, (except one that we still haven't been able to catch). Molly is a timid dog. She gets along with other dogs and is good with kids. It just takes her a little bit more time to get use to people. When she does warm up to you, she loves to snuggle her head against you and let you scratch her back and rub her belly.

Buster is the smallest and he has a head that sort of resembles that of a Beluga Whale. I believe he has some Springer Spaniel in his lineage. Buster is a little shy at first but becomes very friendly in a short time. He loves being petted. He is a small dog at just 25 pounds and takes his time eating food due to having several missing and broken teeth. 

Chester is a little bit bigger and weighs 30 pounds. He also has some missing and broken teeth. Chester is very outgoing and not shy at all! He loves to run around till he gets your attention. Then he will roll over exposing his belly for a good rubbing. 

All of these dogs are good with children and other dogs. The vet said their broken teeth were probably caused from eating rocks, something that happens when dogs go hungry, but they will never go hungry again. They are available separately, but would prefer that Chester and Molly stay together. They have a very special bond that keeps them together. They would love to share that bond with a special person like you.

This is Foster. He is a SPECIAL NEEDS DOG.  He is the puppy it took us so long to catch.  It took us 2 months after rescuing the rest of his family, Momma Molly, Buster, Chester and 3 other liter mates. He was out there all by himself and even though we were still making sure he had food, I'm sure he was very lonely and scared without his mom. He was about 4 months when this happened and it obviously affected him.

Once we did get Foster home, he was extremely shy and scared.  He did not seem to recognize Molly, Chester or Foster.  He has never been abused, but does not trust people. He will not come to anyone willingly.  Although he has softened up to the point he will now take a dog treat from your hands. He NEEDS someone willing to work with him and spend the time he needs to adjust.  I'm afraid if Foster does not find a home very soon, he will become even more detached from people.  We are doing the best we can, but we work full time and can't spend the time with him he needs.

On the weekends we bring him in the house, bathe him and try to comfort him.  He retreats into a hiding place and will not eat or react to any stimulation.

HOPPY – Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix - Neutered

This is Hoppy!  He got that name because he was hopping around from a leg injury when he was rescued, but also because Hoppy kinda sounds like Happy and that is what this dog is - HAPPY!  Hoppy is an amazingly friendly and sweet dog.  He loves to lay his head in your lap and take car rides.  He gets along with other dogs and doesn't bother cats.  He is also GREAT with children!  Hoppy has nerve damage from an injury and that's why his leg is in a cast right now, but the vet said he will be just fine.  He used his leg before, but his foot turned backward, so we decided to have it fixed.  It's about quality of life and making things easier for a well deserving dog.  Hoppy has been neutered, is current on all of his shots including rabies and he is heart worm free!  All he is waiting for now is for you to make him part of your life!  I guarantee he will make you as hoppy, I mean happy as can be!

We are an adorable pair!  We have been together since birth and are very close!  We were adopted out together and recently came back to the shelter after escaping from our home (back yard) numerous times.  We always stayed together the entire time so we really want a new home where we can continue to stay together.  We do well inside the house but we were never aloud inside our previous home.  We really want to be with our people as well as each other.  We are sweet, friendly, and get along well with everyone.  

STRIKER

Striker was one of 14 dogs living in an old trailer house that had been vacated when his owner was taken away by social services.  He was never aloud outside and was never socialized.  He isn't an aggressive dog, but he is a little scared of strangers, although very curious and wanting attention.  Given a little time and TLC he comes around and will sit on your lap!  He was given the name striker because he was bit by a rattlesnake just days before we were able to catch him.  Striker only weighs 10 pounds and is full grown.  He has really come a long way since he has been at the shelter.  He is full of love and really wants to be held!

William is very affectionate and sweet with people and bigger dogs.  He looks much bigger in his pictures but only weighs about 12 pounds.  He is so loving.

Kami is a real sweet little dog who was dumped at the pound.  She was scheduled to be put down when we rescued her from death row.  She gets along well with other dogs and loves people.  She was flea and tick infested and is being treated for it.  She is a beautiful dog with a very kind spirit.

ANDRE – Black Lab Mix - Neutered

Andre was left behind in the country with 14 other dogs when his caretaker was taken away by social services.  He remained loyal and guarded the place, barking at any strangers who came along.  It took us 2 hours to catch him because he was determined to stay and defend his masters’ home but we couldn’t leave him there in the heat with no food or water.  He is one of the gentlest dogs we have ever seen.  He gets along great with dogs of all sizes and is also really good with cats.

Will is a cute little dog who skips when he plays!  He is so cute to watch!  He was rescued from death row at the pound and is so happy to be out of there!  He does well with other dogs and loves attention!

Spotacus was found lost and hungry as he wandered up to a business.  The workers were amazed at how friendly and sweet this dog was so they started feeding him.  He was brought to the shelter instead of going to his death because of his unusually sweet personality.  He has received all his shots and been neutered.  He is heartworm negative.  Even the vet was surprised at how docile and friendly he was.  Spotacus is good around children ages 5 and up, but hasn't been tested with children younger than that.  He is well behaved and still has lots of his friendly, outgoing, puppy personality.  It is unknown how he would do around cats. One night a couple sitting on their front porch noticed a strange car drive down the road in their sub-division.  They noticed the car speed off a short while later and thought "whoever that was, they are up to no good."  How right the couple was.  A short while later they noticed a sad and lonely dog.  She had just been dumped.  Why people commit this cruel act is beyond me.  What I do know is the couple had it in their heart to seek help for this dog.  They named her Sandy and would probably have kept her if they weren't both military and facing overseas deployment.  Sandy was taken to a foster home not long after. She sat perfectly still in the back seat.  She seemed very sad, but didn't bark when introduced to the other foster dogs.  She got along with all of them.  She didn't bark at the cats either.

Sandy has a slight case of heartworms and is being treated for it.  Because Sandy has a long coat that hadn't been properly taken care of, she got a trip to the groomers.  She has been staying in the house and seems very comfortable, especially around the kids.  How sad she must be that her former family left her that way.  But how happy she must feel knowing there are kind people who are doing their best to look after her and help her find a new forever home.

RICO & JINGLES – Leopard Catahoulas - Neutered

These two brothers were rescued from a local small town area pound.  They were scheduled to be euthanized the day the owner of our sister shelter stopped in to see what was there.  She convinced them to wait a couple of days until she could find space for them but she didn’t have long because the pound fills up fast and the kill animals twice a week over there.  These two boys are very lucky to have made it out of there alive.  They are both really sweet and friendly.  They are approximately 20 pounds as of 17 April 2009.

Lokie is a great dog who was adopted out as a pup and then returned when her owners had to move.  They brought her back with intentions of coming back for her but it has been 5 months now and we don't hear a word from them.  Poor Loki just spent 5 months at the shelter when she could have been searching for a new home.  She loves people and is really sweet and friendly.

These two sweet dogs, father and son, Rusty and Red were drive from Houston to San Antonio 4 months after their dad died and left them in his backyard alone.  They are now at their new foster and although a little scared after losing their dad and the only home they know, they seemed very happy to get some long deserved attention.  Unfortunately, shortly after they arrived, Red stopped eating and his breathing became labored.  His foster took him straight to the vet. (The dogs haven't barked once since they have been at their new home but when Red was taken to the vet's office, his little boy Rusty howled for him for the first time...almost as if he knew).  We were told Red has a partially collapsed lung and pneumonia, in the later stages of heartworm infestation and the poor oxygen levels in his blood is causing lethargy.  He also has significant water on his heart and lungs, his white blood cell count is over 39,000 and he has whip worms and hook worms.  This poor dog is only estimated at 2-3 yrs old, and his young age is the only reason the vet is even giving him a 30% chance of surviving.  We were all trying to figure out what to do but decided that because Red is still fighting, we are going to fight with him!  Afterall, we are a no kill shelter and he deserves a second chance!  The next day it was discovered that Rusty is suffering from whipworms, hookworms, and heartworms as well.  He doesn’t have all the other problems Red has but we caught him early enough we are hoping his condition won’t progress as bad as Red’s.  As you can imagine their vet bills are going to be phenomenal.  We are writing this plea to hopefully get some donations to help fight for Red’s young life and to help Rusty as well.  These dogs have been owned by no one after their dad passed away but being fostered by a very nice woman who has several other dogs and can not afford to take this on herself.  The shelter is struggling with rising costs of vet care not to mention monthly heartworm prevention expense alone exceeds well over $500 a month.  We are asking if you can donate even $5 or $10 dollars, then pass this along to others who may help, this would mean the world to us and to Red and Rusty.  They deserve to be together and healthy after all they have lost.  Any tax deductible donations can be made through the Pay Pal link at this web site:  www.dogsrus.org using the email address Kim@dogsrus.org or they can be mailed to Las Lomas K9 Rescue, PO Box 494, Floresville TX  78114.  Thank you for any help you can give us!

Purdy was found abandoned in the country.  She was hungry, thirsty and very thin.  In just a few short weeks, she has come a long way and looks great!  She has a beautiful shiny coat, and as you can tell, is now being well fed!  She is a lover, gets along well with others, and loves to play.  She also enjoys a good tummy rub and lots of love and kisses!  She is very active and has a lot of energy to burn!

EMERALD

Emerald is an adorable mixed breed girl with stunning eyes. She is a medium size, only weighs about 30 pounds. She was the runt of the litter. 

Emerald was adopted and returned because it  was discovered that she was born with a genetic defect.  She has no ball and sockets in her hips.  She went to our vet for an  evaluation.  She is in no pain and plays and runs like a normal dog.  She may, at some point in her life, require a surgery, but for now, it was recommended to wait.   Some dogs who are born with this condition live their entire lives pain free without surgery.  She isn't on any medication and is a happy go lucky dog.  

She lived indoors in her first home so she has had some house training. She loves to play and is a very sweet and gentle dog.

June is a wonderful little Terrier-mix dog.  She has a very sweet disposition. Although she is playful, she is also very well mannered and well behaved.  She is not a jumper or a barker and she would make a great little house companion!

"Junie" enjoys her doggy roommate at the shelter and they have fun barking at the horses when they get too rowdy, but other than that, she's mostly a calm, quiet girl.  We don't know how Junie would be with small kids or cats or if she was ever housetrained.

She's a delightful little girl and just the right size to fit into any family.  She would probably do okay as an apartment dog too as long as she could go along on the next move!  Junie is really hoping to find a forever home and become an integral part of the family!

What kind of dog am I?  A loving, sweet, and gentle kind!  I was dumped off at a McDonalds on Loop 1604.  I was there for a month and one day a bunch of kids were throwing rocks and things at me.  That made me feel really sad.  But a nice man who was eating a cheeseburger witnessed it all and was able to save me before I got hurt.  The tech at the vet named me Che Z since my savior was eating a cheeseburger when he saw me!  He said he just couldn't resist that look in my eyes.  I hope to find a home as kind and loving as me :)

My foster mommy took me in because I showed up and wouldn't take "no" for an answer. But I had nowhere else to go and several trucks almost hit me before she let me in the yard. My foster parents are sad because they can't keep me. Even though they don't want to, they have to keep me locked in a kennel most of the time. There's another dog around here who is an alpha dog and she doesn't want me around. But she's blind and deaf, so it’s hard for her to understand me. I'm also an alpha dog and should be in a home where I can be the boss. I'm great fun and I love to play. If you give me a chance, I would love to become a part of your family!

Penni is a great dog who was found at an apartment complex in San Antonio with Codi.  After 2 months of searching for owners, no luck was found.  It's hard to imagine why anyone would have abandoned Penni, she is a wonderful companion!  She is good with other dogs, great with children, and house trained.  She is really sweet dog and would make a great friend for you!  She loves to curl up on the couch and watch tv or just hang out in the house with you.  She really enjoys people and is a very loveable dog!

Codi is a great dog who was found at an apartment complex in San Antonio with Penni.  After 2 months of searching for owners, no luck was found.  Codi is awesome and it's hard to imagine why anyone wouldn't want her.  She is good with other dogs, great with children, and house trained.  She is a sweet dog!  Codi was heartworm positive when she came to us but she has been treated and has a clean bill of health!  Now all she needs is a home where she will be loved as much as she will love you!

BRIANA

I am Stanley and I was born at the vet clinic with my siblings after our Mom (Pumpkin) was dumped there before giving birth.  I have had a rough life, I am a parvo survivor though and very thankful to the shelter for saving my life!   Prior to coming to the shelter, I didn't have any contact with humans.  All I know is my caregiver, so I am a little shy when I first meet you.  I really depend on my brother, Indigo, to help lead the way for me.  We love to play together and get along really well with each other.

I am Angel, a predominately black heeler mix female who is friendly, energetic, and playful.  I get along great with other dogs and love to play but I do tend to take their food so need to be fed separately.  I currently board with Mr. Tetco, who I adore, but my caretaker sits in our room between us while we eat; otherwise, Mr. Tetco would go hungry.  I am  wonderful with kids although I haven't been around them since coming to the shelter.  I am very smart and a fast learner.  I am highly intelligent; I was paper trained in just 2 days!  I am the type of dog who bonds really fast to my human companions and will follow you anywhere for attention.  I am extremely sweet and love to give kisses.  I grew up around cats and livestock but have probably forgotten what that was all about so I would need a home with no other animals, besides dogs that is!

Hi, my name is Leo and I am a unique dog.  I do extremely well with cats but not so well with other dogs!!  I am choosy about my friends and do enjoy playing with others at times but I normally prefer to be left alone.  I have been completely house trained and will stay inside all day without chewing on a thing I shouldn't be chewing on!  I love to go for walks on the beach, hiking in the parks, and just plain out lounging around.  I am  great in the car and have had some basic obedience training.  I am very food aggressive though, with both animals and humans. As long as you don't come near my food when I am eating, I am fine, but if you stick your hands in my food bowl, or try to pet me while I am eating, I will definitely ask you to back off!

I need an experienced dog handler who understands mood swings and is willing to learn my ways and give me a chance in life.  I can be very sweet and I love to give hugs and kisses, but on my terms only.  I can be quite moody but would be a great friend to someone willing to help me.  I would also make a great guard dog.

CUTE KAILANI!  Kailani came to the shelter as a puppy with her littermates.  Her Dad is a purebred GSD.  She is a little timid meeting new people but attentive, curious, and eager to join in the fun.

Kailani is a playful dog who enjoys the company of her shelter roommate, Kaitlin.  She has grown up around other dogs, but since she has grown up in the shelter, she hasn't had the opportunity to explore all the things the big, outside world has to offer.  Thus, she will require a home willing to work with her and slowly show her the ropes of learning new things, home manners, training, and socializing.

HOLLEY SWEETNESS!  Sweet, submissive, friendly seeks same.  Holley is a kind-hearted, waggy girl who gets along great with other dogs and people.

She is looking for a loving family to call her own.  She can climb over a 5 foot fence though, so she needs a good secure and tall fence!  She may enjoy the companionship of another easy going dog.

Holley had some skin issues when she came and spent some time at the vet's office who reported that she was never aggressive or food sensitive, just sweet, sweet, sweet and good with everyone, kids included.

The vet found no reason for the skin problems, and they did clear up, but it may be that her skin is sensitive to the sun or allergy prone.

I get along well with other dogs but still have a lot of puppy in me.  I love to lay on the floor and have my belly rubbed!  I love people but am very protective of my domain and will alert when strangers approach.

My sister Pepper is a carbon copy of me.  We are not aggressive by any means.  We are loving and fun dogs who also happen to be sisters who really enjoy each others company and are looking for a home where we can stay together.  You see, all of our siblings were adopted when we were just 6 weeks old and my sister and I have been together ever since so we have become inseparable.

Kaitlin is a very sweet dog who was thrown out with the trash on Loop 1604 near Floresville, Texas.  She was seen sitting in the same place for 3 days waiting on that horrible person who dumped her to come back for her.  She was a little nervous when we first picked her up but now she is very happy and thankful for food, water, and any attention we can give her.  She is a medium size dog with a huge heart!!

Kaitlan gets along well with the dogs at the shelter.  She hasn’t been around kids or cats so we don’t know how she would respond to them.  She is gentle, and easy going though!

BEAU

Beau is a handsome red and white Border Collie who was abandoned on a country road.  Beau is good with other dogs.  He is attentive to people and has a pleasant, friendly personality.  He likes to give hugs and kisses.  Beau is currently living in an outdoor shelter/kennel environment, so we do not know if he is housetrained.

Don't let my gray hair fool you. I still have a lot of life and love to give but without being high maintenance. True, I'm not the party girl I once was, but that's a good thing, because now I'm mature and settled. I like the occasional romp in the sun, but I'm mostly looking for some laid back Golden years and human companionship. I get along with other dogs too.

Right now, I live in an outdoor shelter but would so love to be curled up in the house by your side. We could take occasional walks, and maybe share a snack every now and then. I'm a nice, quiet girl, but I am loyal and would let you know when a stranger is lurking around outside.

LACEY IS LIVELY!  Lacy is a bit of a fireball - very enthusiastic and friendly - a little overly friendly for young kids as she might knock them down with her gusto.

She would be good for an 8 year old boy; they could get into mischief together. :)  Lacy is always smiling and ready for the next adventure life has to offer.

Lacy is accustomed to living outdoors and would be okay as an outdoor dog with a securely fenced yard as long as she got plenty of human attention and perhaps had another canine companion to play with.  Of course, she would love someone to take the time to house train her and spend time teaching her home manners so she could be inside with her people.

Lacy has a marble color and tone to her coat which is unique.  She thrives on human attention and would sell her own soul for a cookie and a hug.  Then again, wouldn't we all?!

TIGER

TIGER is like Tony the Tiger used to say, "Greeeaat for the heart!"  He is a very smiley and wiggly fellow.  He is one compact muscle - he doesn't wag is tail, he wags his whole body!  You know what they say about those waggers.  They all have happy endings, and we are hopeful Tiger will too!

Tiger loves other dogs, children, and is an awesome people dog.  He loves to run and roughhouse with his dog friends, but he also has a softer side too.

He is a great size - not too small, not too big - just right, and he will make a great family companion whether at the lake or snoozing on the porch or sofa with this pals.

LUCY LOU

Lucy is a compact Lab mix with a dynamic personality who is eager to please and very trainable.

She has a lot of energy and would make a good jogging pawtner.  She loves to run and has been helpful in adding a race track to her foster mom's dog yard.  Lucy prefers the boy dogs and the bigger the better; she said size is not an object.

She has been around kids and is no threat, but she does tend to jump up for hugs.  Not that this is a bad thing, as the world could always use some more huggers, but she might be too overwhelming for the little kiddos at this time.

BONNY

Bonny is a beautiful German Short Hair Pointer mix, even though everyone says she looks like a Lab!  Bonny is a very active, energetic, lively dog who will require plenty of exercise.  She is also very friendly and gets along well with everyone.

Bonny has the agility and ability to be a rowdy girl, however, I can also see her curled up in front of a fireplace.  She is not housebroken to our knowledge, but has great potential of being an inside/outside dog as she is a quick study who is highly trainable and eager to learn.

Bonny's color makes her unique to look at and her bubbly personality makes her easy to love. She is great with kids of all ages, good w/ other dogs, and cats unknown.

ROWDY

Rowdy was surrendered to the shelter when his owner moved and could not take him.  He was an indoor/outdoor dog, good with other dogs, but had not been around cats.

Rowdy lives up to his name and has an active, party boy personality.  He's up for some good adventures, if you are!  Rowdy knows some basic commands such as "sit."  He loves playing in the water and being sprayed with the water hose.

Rowdy will require an active family who can meet his exercise needs and a secure fenced yard.  We do not know how he is around kids.  He'd probably be okay, but may overwhelm little ones.

SAMANTHA

Samantha is a cute little "granny" looking dog.  She's had a hard life at the hands of humans, and while she's not really a "scaredy cat," she just has to make sure she can trust you before offering up all the love she has to give.  You can see by her photos that she is a sweet soul with a big heart, though, and would be a loyal friend.

She gets along with her doggy roommate at the shelter and other dogs who don't get in her business.  She's too sophisticated for a lot of high action, roughhousing, and drama.  A quiet, adults only, home with kind, patient companionship is all she asks for, and she will keep you company in return.

GURLIE

Gurlie is a great dog who loves people!  She is house trained, rides well in the car, loves to go for walks, and is happy just being around people!  She is gentle, obedient, well behaved and an all around love bug.

Her only downfall is that she does not like other animals and needs a home where she can be the only dog and not have to share her attention with anyone but you.  She will do fine with older children and will need a secure fenced yard and responsible guardian.

FURRY

FURRY – Black Lab/ Border Colllie Mix – Neutered

Furry is still waiting for his own home!  He was part of a litter brought to the vet clinic at 5 days of age with no mom.  The kind, caring office manager bottle-fed them all until they were able to eat on their own and find new homes.

Furry is more docile and laid back than your typical Border Collie.  He's just a good-ole-boy still hopeful that sweet, black dogs do find loving homes!  Furry is gentle, kind, great with other dogs, and he LOVES to play in the water!!  Whether it be his water bucket, or the water hose, he can easily be entertained for hours!

HOLLIE

HOLLIE IS WONDERFUL. We don't know for sure what breed mixes Hollie is, but she has a longish, full black coat and a very sweet, bubbly, kind, people loving personality like that of a Retriever or Aussie. She's quiet, laid back, easy going, and most content when hanging out with her people doing whatever they're doing. She loves her people!

Hollie gets along great with other dogs and enjoys their company. She has also lived with a cat in the past, so she'd probably be fine with a dog savvy cat.

When left alone in the yard for extended periods in the past, Hollie has been known to dig out in search of companionship and her people, so she may enjoy the company of another dog in her new home and should be supervised initially.

Hollie is housetrained, well mannered, and will make an easy, loving addition to most any family.

SAWYER

SAWYER - Hound/Heeler Mix - Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  28 November 2004

Sawyer is a smart, very active dog who likes to play fetch, although he forgets the "return" part!  He's the type that will do best in an active home with someone who wants a jogging pawtner or to do agility, frisbee, or some type of doggy sport to keep this active guy's mind and body busy.

Sawyer is a very confident, outgoing dog who will do best with a strong leader willing to work on his obedience training and focus.

Sawyer gets along with the other dogs in his kennel but he can be a little food aggressive when sharing with others.  He has not been around kid or cats, but would be too exuberant in nature for them at this time.

MINNIE

MINNIE - German Shepherd/Catahoula Mix - Spayed

Estimated Date of Birth:  12 February 2005

Minnie was part of a litter that came to the shelter as pups.  She is a very pretty dog whose mother was a purebred German Shepherd Dog, and we believe the father was a Catahoula.

Minnie enjoys the companionship of other dogs, is a little shy, but friendly with people, and has a pleasant personality.  She would like to get out of the shelter environment and into a home with people who have time and interest in making her a valued family member.

She will need a fenced yard, house training, and basic obedience training as she has been housed in an outdoor shelter environment to date.  She has not been around kids, so we are seeking a home with no kids under 10 years of age.  We do not know how Minnie would be with cats.

MAX

Estimated Date of Birth:  1 June 2005

Max is a Lab mix boy who was found dumped in the country with his littermates when they were pups.  He's grown up in an outdoor shelter/kennel environment, but he has a nice, gentle personality and should be able to integrate into a family home if someone is willing to work with him and give him a chance.

Max is a little bow legged in the back but his vet said it isn't a problem, and doesn't appear to cause pain.  Max enjoys other dogs and likes to play with his roommate Bonnie, an older Lab mix. So far, Max has loved everyone he's ever met.

ROCCO

Estimated Date of Birth:  30 September 2003

Rocco is ready to roll! He has the cutest facial expressions with his intent round eyes! Rocco loves to dunk his whole muzzle in his water bucket and would probably love a good swim!

Rocco was a backyard dog when he was left behind by his sorry people who moved and left him in his yard with 4 ft. weeds and no food or water. Despite this, Rocco is still a fun-loving, Lab boy!

Rocco is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. He is easy going and submissive. Rocco still lives outdoors in the shelter environment but would SO love to have a true forever family to call his own!

He likes to talk to you when asking for attention. He would make a very loyal companion and watch dog. This is a nice and handsome boy who just needs someone to spend some time with him fine-tuning the skills he never had a chance to work on.

ABBEY

Estimated Date of Birth:  6 October 2001

AGILE ABBEY!  Abbey has the black & tan markings of a German Shepherd or Doberman, but she also has a certain sleekness to her conformation that suggests Greyhound or a sight hound of some sort. She is also very athletic and agile.

Abbey is a playful and fun.  She has already been through two obedience training programs and was at the top of her class.  She learned agility and thought that was great fun.  Abbey is smart and attentive and loves training sessions.  She wanted to show off her "standing dance for a treat" trick during her photo shoot. Abbey may do best as an only dog. She has enjoyed the company of other dogs her same size or larger who don't mind rough housing, although she sometimes is a resource guarder of food and her toys.  She does not do well with smaller dogs and animals, perhaps her prey drive, so no smaller dogs, cats, or critters for Miss Abbey. 

Abbey seeks a home with an experienced handler interested in agility or some form of exercise that will utilize her sharp mind and active nature.  This agile girl requires a secure fenced yard (6' privacy fence). 

She can be sensitive and unsure with men, but she has lived with a man and was comfortable with the ones she knew. She seems to prefer women. She likes to patrol the yard for squirrels.

LILY

Lily is a sweet little house dog who absolutely loves and adores people!  She is good with children too.  She loves to have her tummy rubbed, sleep on the bed with you, and curl up on the couch to watch TV.  She loves playing with other dogs; however, she tends to be a dominate alpha female and can sometimes play very rough so her time spent with other dogs would have to be very closely supervised.  She would do better in a home where she could have all the love and attention!

NUGGET

We aren’t really sure what type of dog Nugget is but we do know that he is very sweet and loving. While he loves to play and socialize, he isn’t a wild or hyper dog.

He does like to give hugs and kisses but is very gentle.  He enjoys being outdoors playing with his friends.  He has such a gentle spirit about him and is well behaved in public and around other dogs.

He walks great on a leash, is great for bath time, and is just an all around fun loving dog!

INDIGO

Estimated Date of Birth:  25 January 2007

Indigo came to the shelter as a puppy with his littermates and mother.  He is a little timid meeting new people, yet very anxious, curious, and eager to join in the fun. He likes to talk to people in his special way to get attention and can be quite the character.

Indigo is an energetic, playful dog who would like a home with another doggy companion. He's grown up around other dogs, but since he has grown up in the shelter, he hasn't had the opportunity to explore all the things the big, outside world has to offer. Thus, he will require a home willing to work with him and show him the ropes of learning new things, home manners, training, and socializing.

Because he hasn't been around kids and is still a puppy at heart (just over a year old), he will be best in an adults only home with people who have time to spend with him and fine-tune all the best he has to offer!

COWGIRL

Hi there!  I am Cowgirl, a very sweet and loving dog who enjoys being around people and other dogs.  I am very gentle and easy going; however, I am quite the escape artist and really need to be an indoor dog with my time outside very closely supervised!  I need a high privacy fence for closely supervised activities outdoors and when I am not behind a high privacy fence I need to be kept on a leash.  I am also terrified of loud noises such as thunderstorms, fireworks, and gun shots.  I tend to bolt when I get scared and don't easily come back when called.  I am well worth the effort though because if you love me and keep me safe I will be a loyal and devoted friend for life!  I am crate trained.

STORMY

I am Stormy. I am active and playful, yet a gentle dog. I have lived indoors before but am currently living in the shelter with my new friend Nugget.  I enjoy playing with Nugget, and he helps me cope with missing my family and the indoor life of watching TV and hanging out with my friends.

I have had some basic obedience training and really enjoyed going to the classes. I wouldn’t be hard to housetrain since I have lived indoors before. I am an intelligent girl and a fast learner.

I'm a cute, little bit short and stout girl, so I'm more of a medium size for my breed.  Do you have a place in your heart and home for me, so I can live the family life I was accustomed to?  I get along with other dogs and might be okay with cats.

REBA

Estimated Date of Birth:  22 February 2000

Check out Reba’s beautiful eyes!  The Australian Shepherd in her gives her one blue eye and mix that with her beautiful red coat and you get a really gorgeous looking dog!  Reba was once was housetrained, so will do well indoors.  She loved spending time with her family, and they reported she was an excellent dog.  However, when they moved, they left her behind.  She was sad to be left alone but has adjusted and is a happy go lucky dog who gets along well with others.  She does need some introductions before readily sharing a food bowl, but she and her roommate now share food all the time.  Reba loves attention and would let you rub her tummy all day!  She also loves to cuddle up on the couch next to you and watch TV!  She is loving, gentle, and kind and would love to go home with you!  Don‘t those striking eyes just steal your heart?!!

BOBBY

BOBBY – Foxhoud/Hound Mix – Neutered

Estimated Date of Birth:  29 March 2000

Bobby is a friendly, moderately active, Hound mix with a darling bobtail.  He gets along well with other dogs, but we've not seen him around cats or kids.  He has an overall pleasant personality and is attentive toward people.  He would like an active home where he could be part of family activities. 

Bobby is gentle, quiet, and laid back.  He enjoys lounging around in the sun and playing with his friends.  He loves attention but doesn’t jump on you to get it.  He was thrown from a moving truck with Billy but amazingly enough they both escaped major harm.  Despite his abuse, he remains very friendly and loyal.

BILLY

Billy is a Hound mix with an adorable bobtail and freckled legs.  He is smart, attentive, energetic, athletic, agile, treat motivated, and eager to learn! He had no problem "bobbing for a treat" during his "photo shoot." Check out his video!   Click here!

Billy seems like he would be an excellent candidate for agility or another doggy sport. He would also be a good jogging pawtner. Billy will require daily exercise for physical and mental stimulation.

We think Billy was an outdoor, free roaming dog previously, so he will need some fine tuning in the home manners department. Billy is a sweet and eager boy who is anxious to show you how much he can learn! He is probably too exuberant at this time for young children and cats. He gets along with the other dogs in his foster home.

CHARLIE BROWN – Great Pyrenees/ Anatolian Shepherd - Neutered

Birthday:  11 September 2007

Charlie Brown is an awesome dog and weighs about 80 lbs.  He is sweet, gentle, very friendly, and gets along great with everyone including children and other dogs.  His foster family has 5 children and three other dogs.  He is house trained, well behaved, and just a fantastic all around dog!

In Charlie Brown's foster home he spends a lot of time with their goat.  It was his choice as the goat is just in the yard with the dogs and he just started hanging around with the goat.  Charlie Brown was raised in an apartment and quickly "outgrew" his home.  His family decided to give him up since their apartment was so little.  He would love to have a new home with people that will love him for the rest of his life.

Charlie Brown's birthday will always be an easy one to remember since it is 9-11.

PACO – Chihuahua Male – Neutered

Paco is kind of shy but he is real sweet and very good-natured.  He gets along with all the other dogs and is crate trained.  As far as housebreaking goes, he does well while supervised but we have not left him loose all day long in the house by himself. Paco likes the quiet life and seems to relax more when it is quiet. He appears  more shy when there is a lot going on around him.  He is just a loving little boy. When he is comfortable with the other dog he becomes more playful with them. Paco weighs 7 pounds and would make someone a great little companion.

SHEENA – Dachshund - Spayed

Birthday:  25 February 2009

Sheena is the sweetest puppy ever and weighs 12.4 pounds.  She loves to be held and will press her head into your neck giving hugs. She is gentle and friendly and is crate trained. We are working on the housebreaking and she is doing well. Sheena gets along with other dogs, cats and children. She loves to snuggle up on your lap but can snuggle up beside you and be just as content. Sheena is a beautiful, little red Dachshund female and is a credit to her breed.

JOURDAN – Collie Mix

Birthday:  7 March 2009

Jourdan was found in a McDonalds parking lot. She had the typical abandoned, lost look in her eyes. We have seen it all too often. When I first saw her she was approaching everyone she saw trying to get some one to notice her. She would gently approach them and as they walked past her, ignoring her she would get this disappointed look in her eyes and then approach another. She did this for almost an hour while I watched. We were in agreement not to bring in another dog until we had some more adopted out but as I watched her, hoping someone would open their heart and just pet her, feed her or even take her home with them I knew I would not leave her there to starve.

I called her to me and she came eagerly. I put her in the back seat of my car. She layed on the floor and seemed a little concerned about what was happening but was well behaved. She adjusted well to all the other dogs and has been a good companion and friend to all of them. Jordan has the beautiful face of a Collie but shorter hair.  She is very playful and sweet. Jordan is a joy to have around.

Dax is a beautiful young female German shepherd mix.  She is very sweet and good with children.  She was found living under a bridge covered in fleas.  She is healthy and happy now and ready to go to her new home. She will be spayed and she is current on routine vaccines.

Lucky is a sweet little dog who survived a really hard life.  We don’t know what happened to him but he was real sick when we found him and barely able to walk.  We thought he was paralyzed and he shook all the time.  After some TLC he made a miraculous recovery and is doing great!  He is ready for his forever home.

These precious puppies were abandoned and scared.  It took months to catch them so they will need some socialization.  They are beautiful and very curious and will come up to meet you at the fence but still need work on coming to you and letting you pick them up.  They need a special home with someone who has the time and dedication to work with them.

BE-BE

BE-BE – Pug/Chihuahua – Spayed

Be-Be was rescued from a high kill shelter.  She was thin, missing hair and the look in her eyes told a sad story of love once upon a time and then the heartbreak of being lost and forgotten.  The third picture of Be-Be is what she looked like at the pound when we found her. She looked as though she had given up.  Such sadness and hopelessness shown in her face.

Today Be-Be is a happy girl and loves life. She is friendly and loves company.  She has lots of buddies she spends time with and loves to be the center of attention.  Be-Be does the cutest trick - she can "chomp" her teeth on command.  If you think you would love the company of a true survivor with a big heart then maybe she is the dog for you.

Papa-dawg was born to a sweet, shy lab-mix mom who was abandoned and picked up by animal control.  We brought her here two days before the pups were born.  He has been such a joy to have around and our grandchildren named him Papa-dawg after their Grandpa.  Papa-dawg is so sweet and is a friendly pup.  He will give his new family just as much love as is possible for a sweet, gentle little pup.

Lani is very sweet.  She is friendly and loves everyone.  She has such a unique color and a good solid build.  She is tan with light grey spotting and a little black.  As of 3 April 2009 she weighed 16 lbs.  She is current on her shots and has been dewormed.

Pitty Sakes' Survival Story

When I get deployed to a disaster or emergency for animals, there is always one dog that stands out as a fur kid that deserves a chance to live a happy life that may not get that opportunity if I don't 'do' something. While deployed to Anahuac, Texas, to help the animal victims of Hurricane Ike, that dog was "Pitty Sakes". A white bully breed lady, in appalling condition - it obvious that she didn't get in this condition just from the hurricane or from treading ocean water and dodging debris searching for food!  Malnutrition, generalized mange, heartworms, various infections, skin and bones, minor injuries - you name it. When I saw her all weak and skinny with the look in her eyes that said she was about at the end of her endurance, I said "oh, for pity's sake, this dog didn't get in this condition just since the hurricane!", so the name Pitty Sakes stuck, as she laid her exhausted head in my lap and looked up at me in relief. I was pretty confident that no one would claim her and that she'd be euthanized.  So I put my name band on her neck to call me if no one claimed her. What a surprise, no one did. So I made arrangements to transport her to me in Kerrville and got her healthy.  Pitty was adopted and returned through no fault of her own (job transfer).  Pitty, (aka Sophie) is a very affectionate dog, loves to play, give kisses, and use her highly developed brain! True to her bully breed, she can be other dog aggressive, but she minds well, having been through doggie obedience school. She's a strong, exuberant girl now that she's healthy and is so eager to please! She's great with people. I'd like her to go to an experienced home used to big, strong, intelligent dogs.  She's fully vetted, hw neg., spayed, shots, mange treated, micro chipped.  Ready to go to a home - just need some help finding the "right" one for this very special survivor!!  Pitty Sakes is a white bully breed lady, with red spots, and a pink nose, pink eyelashes, pink toenails and pink lips - very much a girly-girl!! So she'll have her pink collar and pink leash too. :)  Age is about 3 years, and she'd love to live INDOORS if at all possible due to her white skin, she sunburns easily, and loves the air conditioning!!

Stanford is a great dog who does well with other male dogs but not so much with females.  He's NOT good with cats.  We honestly don't have any concerns about him with children, but since we don’t know for sure, he'd be best with children over 13.  He's housetrained, crate-trained, and pretty calm most of the time, the more attention he gets, the calmer he is.

Nova is a very affectionate dog who found out in Floresville on Highway 181.  Owners have never claimed her and she is searching for a new home now.  She had recently had puppies but they were nowhere to be found and she didn’t seem to be looking for them either.  Nova loves to be pet and doesn’t mind you being near her food, bathing her, or even picking her up.  She is a very sweet dog!

Clyde is a very passive dog, however, he is now looking for a new home because of a one-time incident where he bit a young child who was visiting his home.  She required stitches.  Other than this one time situation, Clyde has been a great dog.  Can you please help him find a new home?

These dogs have excellent temperaments and would make good family pets.  They are also good hunting and herding dogs; however, they need a secure yard to keep them safe from running off.  They are very submissive and non-aggressive with other dogs and would be great companions!

Hi, my name is Chunk.  I get along fine with other dogs but haven't been exposed to cats.  I weigh approximately 75 pounds.  Our rescuer has to keep me outside because she has a small house but I do get to go inside when it is cold out and I do good in the house.  I am crate trained.  

I am playful and silly, but extremely intelligent and loyal. I would be great for someone who has the time to work with me on housetraining.

Buddy is smart and eager to please.  He knows several basic commands and is crate-trained.  He likes hanging out with his people and car rides.

Buddy is an active boy and an alpha by nature, so he will be best as an only dog or paired with a more submissive type.  He lives with several dogs now and does fine.

Buddy is athletic and agile and can jump a 4ft. fence, so he will require a 6' secure fenced area.  Buddy is a highly trainable dog, and he would benefit from a lot of personal attention.

Chulita showed up on the porch of her foster home and wouldn't take no for an answer.  She enjoys hanging out with her people and car rides.

Chulita is an athletic, agile dog who can easily climb a 4 ft. fence if she wants to.  She has a calm, peaceful demeanor overall, but she has been selective about her doggy friends during initial introductions in the past.  She currently lives with several dogs, though, and does fine.  She may be best matched with a more submissive dog.

A home without cats will be best for Chulita, and we do not know how she is with kids, but she loves her adult human friends
